Openweb Uncapped Feedback

And once again MrBeep shows the utmost competence and helpfulness that has become synomous with OpenWeb. As it turns out, the problems were related to the telkom exhange in my area.

I live in an area that has 3 internet cafes in a two block radius from my flat, so I'll assume that might be why the exhange can get so congested?

Edit: Oh yeah, and the biggest student computer centre for the Stellenbosch University is about 250 metres from my flat, but I'm guessing they'll be on another exhange?

Graal, the uni's run on a different infrastructure.... I doubt the silly Telkom exchanges are powerful enough for them :D

Been away for a while so really lekker to load up an NZB and see it flying at 450KB/s.This product just works!!

MrBEEP ... don't touch anything!

It has been working flawlessly since Monday... day and night.

Whatever the settings your side are... superglue them in place.

:) :)

Hmm, now my download speeds through steam are just awful, and they were fine this morning.

Speedtest also shows:

I regret complaining about my issues at all now. I didn't want it to get worse. :(

Edit: Speedtest tested normal this morning. What's even stranger is I was actually on the IS backbone, so I don't know why this new account on the same backbone is worse.

Think there might be some IS related problem. MrBEEP reset my port around 16:00 when I couldn't even download a simple torrent file but it didn't help much. Speeds finally came up around 17:20 but now its jumping around (40-80kbs)

Why is it that, every 4th or so Youtube video stutters? And a lot of the time I can't even watch a 360p video stream in realtime on 4Mbps ADSL?

%@!@#%!#@ Vodacom.

If i use a download tool to grab a Youtube video, 35-70kbytes/s
If i use a multi threaded download tool to grab a Youtube video, 430kbytes/s

Why are they shaping HTTP traffic?

700 bucks a month, and it's 2011 and I can't even freaking stream some STANDARD DEFINITION content?

Yet, usenet, Steam are all fine.

This is an on going issue, Youtube videos that are cached locally on SA servers are fine. but other, less popular videos are not fine.

Anyone else experiencing a pretty solid crash now? I am getting 10kb/s at a guess..

All seems fine on IS, but guessing you on VB?

Although the shaping seems to be getting a bit extreme in the daytime with IS Gold accounts this past month, HTTP is still good, but P2P is a lot worse off.

I used to be on VB, but now on another server, not sure which though :\ Can't even speedtest, it pings then waits indefinitely.

VB is fine for me.

So tried my test account last night and everything ran very nicely. My general browsing speed was faster than with my capped 10mb cybersmart account. Downloads also ran very nicely. So for what it's worth I was impressed. So I guess I'll be joining all of you soon :)

Well thanks for coming!!! :p

Experiencing absolute crap speeds these last few days. Everthing is violently shaped during working hours and despite being on a "Gold" account my internet is useless for both browsing and downloading (NTTP/torrents). After hours does not appear to be significantly better, but it's clear from 5pm to 7am that this policy is relaxed.

My pre-paid account with another ISP seems to be running 100% at the moment. Getting really sick of these end of the month issues with OpenWeb accounts as it used to be prevelant in the last day or so of the month, but July it has been closer to 2 weeks with crap internet.

I might as well switch to a non-Gold account :(

Been having the same problems, ever since this the masses have swamped to open web cuz of this Gold uncapped promotion, my speeds have been absolutely dismal during the day. Making me resort to using my capped offerings most of the time..... Think i am going to give up on uncapped all together.
