Wow - my account must have been flying last night - I just noticed it completed a 11GB auto-download without me even noticing it was added.

Definitely something not right on the VB network. 4meg line doing around 0.2meg.

IS 4m gold just going really really slow today. Even now I can't even stream a video from youtube.

Giving up, it's taking 15 minutes to stream a 2 min video and it's not even HD. Will see if it has improved tomorrow otherwise I will drop MrBeep a mail.

Hi Rohan,

The network is running perfectly at the moment, with lots of spare capacity.

Please switch off your router for 10 minutes then back on. It will reset your DSLAM port which usually solves this problem.

I'll give this a shot as well. Performance seems very weird. Will report back as to whether it sorted things.

Edit - After having my router turned off for about 20 minutes, this is the result, which is 0.26mpbs down and 0.24mbps up. On a 4mbit gold account. Yeah.

Looking at the above, shaping is normal during the day but come night, you have to sometimes force it to get through the relaxed shaping after hours. At around 12am, i had to resync (rebooted router) my line (weak SNR sometimes) 4 times till i got full speed on NNTP & HTTP.

Hope that helps :)

Currently I'm getting 300- 350kb/s via NNTP on a download using a VB 4MB gold uncapped account, which I'm still satisfied with :)

But I have to say the past 2 days it does appear as if there has been a slight reduction in overall speed on VB, streaming still works too, but luckily things haven't got so bad that I had to email MrBeep.

Holding thumbs I can keep this download rate and have it increase again as the day goes by :D

I've noticed this as well. If i leave my downloads on during the day, and don't reset, it will remain "shaped" regardless of the time. However, if i switch my PC and Router off at 6am and restart at 6pm, i get the full download speed through the night. I don't understand how that works. Pretty much restart everything around 6/7pm to get the right speed.

ODD my news server has been hammering down at 350 the whole week, no need to reboot at all let alone everyday but perhaps you are on VB

What I find strange is the fact that I can get around 2meg for nntp, yet HTTP is around 0.2meg.

What's Altech nntp like during the day?

afaik, altech blocks it during the day time.

I'm getting 30KB/s (same as last night 11pm) - ****ing joy... this is becoming incredibly frustrating.

Try vb you nooblet :p

ask mrbeep for a vb account if you never had one :D

He's just changed me off vb on Monday.

The latest suggestion from MrBeep is cancellation - again.

I honestly don't get why some guys get full line speed 24/7 - and others struggle to get above 100KB/s at 11pm at night... and its definitely not a line problem - it can easily be proven by switching to a capped account.

I know someone suggested the afterhours account - but I'm not going to pay an extra R150 and potentially sit with the same problem.

Up until August the 3rd the account was doing fine without any major hiccups - since then its been downhill.

I think I'm going to put a timer on my router that switches it off every 3 hours for 15min... see what effect it has.

Right - I've bought an electronic power plug thingy at game that allows various schedules... not sure if its going to be healthy on the router... going to program it and turn it on tonight, see how it goes.
