Definitely something up, possibly Seacom issues. My after hours uncapped account showed a sharp drop between ~ 11h00 and 12h00 today, and then worked fine until just before 17h00. Since then I have been averaging half the speed I normally get - i.e. ~ 200 KB/s (instead of ~ 400 KB/s). I hope the issue is sorted out soon.
MrBeep - is there anything you can confirm or do to mitigate this problem?
There is definitely a fault. We are working with IS at the moment to find out exactly what is causing it. It could still be related to Seacom issues. I will post here as soon as I know more.
Engineers have confirmed that Seacom, the submarine cable connecting Africa’s east coast to Europe, has broken down between Egypt and Marseilles on Saturday.
This is slowing down international traffic on MWEB’s network.
We are currently running at 55% of our total international capacity and we are negotiating for extra international bandwidth to reroute traffic along other routes.
Seacom is urgently trying to restore their links, but they can’t yet tell us how long it will take, as there are a number of external factors involved.
"Constantly" may be pushing it a little, don't get me wrong VB is great for NZB's (last month I had full speed on Astra pretty much 90% of the time) but you will get periods when you won't get full speeds. At the moment speed is great and going at about 400KB/s, but earlier this week is was mostly hovering between 200-300, which is still awesome though.
I love my OpenWeb VB account, would be hard to give it up. It is quite pricey though, but worth every cent.
I limit my nzb's to 300 and it never dips below that. Well not that i know of but i would say without a shadow of a doubt it run fulls speed 99% of the time
