Thanks but it's all running great now, full speed ahead baby. This is like heaven. 250k downloading and surfing like crazy . I was lucky to do 120 and i could not even surf hahaha. Woooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo. Costs a little bit more but goodness me the pleasure is worth the extra dosh.

Also NNTP SSL does not work. A burst after connecting, but then it dies completely after 30 seconds. Only port 119 seems to work at the aforementioned snail's pace. Is this typical on VB?

I use newsdemon because astraweb had SSL servers but they never actually did much. You should use port 80. I am using ssl on newsdemon and it's going full blast on altech bone though

Don't you guys just love that you have the option to chose which backbone you'd like to be on? Another thing that makes OW so awesome -aside from the great product and service, of course.

The good thing is you know that you can use different backbone's. At least you are not stuck with no hope .

Except that others on VB are flying. I know it'll get sorted eventually, but this is a hugely flaky start.

Usenet (Astraweb) on my side is going at 250KBps but any speed test I try does not go above 60. Weird.

3 times I have had similar happen to me. I'm back on vb but fully expect within the next month or so having to move to altech for a while. And then returning when the new batch of vb accounts become available.

I've said it before and I'll say it again Speedtest.net is not all that reliable these days...





My Filesonic downloads are all over the place though, stalling and not resuming... Running at around 200kBps then up to 1mbps then 0 bytes... A bit temperamental at the mo....

What backbone are you on? IS always sucks hairy ballz on the end/beginning of the month, Mr Beep usually sorts it for me tho just he hasnt replied today tho...

I get this..

I'm on Afrihost now so my kids can play WoW. They were getting 26k latency.

I did some HTTP downloads (using FDM) earlier in the day and was getting about half my full bandwidth (+-200KB/s). I can get up to 60KB/s on 20 NNTP connections. At no point since midnight have I gotten more than half the line capacity. Single threaded downloads are hopeless.

mmm.. not great, http is reasonable at 50% capacity mid-day but nntp not so flash... Afrihost = IS... Maybe give an IS account a plug...
