Opposition parties turn on DA

She is runnning for president, not the PTA chairwoman. WTF man!

Did the thought ever cross your mind that elections take presedence over 2 mayoral meetings. I'm quite sure she has a well-trained dedicated team who can handle the office so to speak when Zille is not there. Logic would also deduce that she attends meetings weekly and will quite easily catch up on the minutes of last weeks' meeting. Your argument is futile.

One could be just as petty to argue that Zuma missed a court date deadline when he was trying to get charges dropped against him. Who dare misses one of those?

Ah, so your bosses tell you what you can and cannot do with your leave? Ah, right, where do you work again because I never want to apply for a position there.

Good gracious, if you take sick leave and miss the Monday morning meeting, do they take a whip to your back to???

Okay, I'll never complain about my job again.

Just a thought, what is the good of a cabinet meeting if the president isn't in attendance. Oh wait, the acting president can reside over the meeting. And yes Cape Town has a deputy mayor who takes over when the mayor is not available, that's why there is a deputy mayor.

Nope Helen took the leave, to which she is entitled for her job, and used it at her discretion. This is not the same as missing a meeting.

with the exception of sick leave, leave is normally pre planned. When you pre-plan your leave, you do take into consideration the engagements you already have for the day.

And I have spoken to many, many metro cops who feel she is doing a great job and are thrilled to have her as their boss. They say there jobs have been made easier and its good to have a boss who is concerned about their needs.

You can't please all the people all the time.

How convenient you can suddenly say that you have also spoken to many metro cops who are happy. Are you the DA spokesperson on the forum :D

And you are? The Metro Cops spokesperson? Convenient that you're also allowed to talk with them... :/

Meetings are the counter productive things that officials do where they agree on words like "master plan", "raise", and "lunch"

Zuma is not an appointed official (yet) so the analogy doesn't hold.
Ok, I'd agree with you that electioneering takes precedence over one's daily job.
Hence, I said she already has her eyes firmly on the premiership...

Which is a good thing. So we're done, all settled then.

Alright Jungleboy. You have a point. He is not an official as yet. In that case let me point out the parliamentarians who rarely attend parliament yet are still paid. How does one justify that? Yet here we are lambasting Zille because she missed two meetings out of the year. It just doesn't make sense.

Lol I'm just saying you rather quick on the defensive. Lets not assume everything is rosy, there are problems in Cape Town and the DA isn't perfect.

I am intelligent enough to see that they are trying to hard to copy an Obama like campaign. While there is nothing wrong with doing that, they should be more willing to admit it.

Nothing and no one is perfect and we musnt pretend thats not the case.

Even better are the ones who sleep in parly!

Eventhough she took leave to do so...

It worked didn't it :D

The point is, no city is without its problems. Cape Town just seems more able to deal with them then another other major metropolitan area. We can only attest this to the DA. This includes the improved service delivery since taking over from the ANC.

Haha at the sleeping beauties of parliament.

Exactly! She followed the correct procedures and took leave and that is not good enough for us? Do me a favour!

If she had just not pitched and left everyone waiting than fair enough i think we could judge.

Why does it matter what campaign they are copying? Why must they admit it? Art imitates life imitates art. We are all guilty of being copycats at one point or another. I fail to see what the problem is here.

Nobody is saying the DA are perfect but in the same breath don't cast stones when there is no reason to cast any in this situation.

I agree, which is why the DA went as far as to substantiate claims that Helen Zille had missed mayoral meetings, when the entire thing was above board.

Originality goes a longer way in terms of credibility instead of emulating others. If you area going to copy someone rather admit it instead of denying that ones logo seems like a direct rip of someone elses logo. Denial of something that is obvoious is the same as lying, which betrays the voters trust. It comes across as devious.

Why did it have to take Obama to be the one to start using the internet more aggressively. Why couldn't the local leaders think of that earlier.

If you want to appeal to the internet savvy generation then realise that the internet savvy generation are not easily fooled by marketing tactics. SMS spam and copying other people can do more damage to a campaign amongst the more savvy users. Theres also a lot more that can be learned from Obama's approach.

If the DA does win the Western Cape time will tell if everything was just electioneering.

It was when he got all those speeding tickets whilst on his annual holiday to the Cape. He had to say something to the cops. It's amazing what you can learn about a city while on holiday.:p

When did she apply for leave and when were the meetins scheduled. Ah, this gets murky...

You guy's know the links could be a scam.. any party leader would try to deny some other parties to give them a bad name..

Just keep that on your mind...

Apparently more than you ever have from living there; but then ignorance is a life choice, I guess. It is also no excuse when you couldn't be bothered to actually learn about the place you live.

For the record everyone: the reason Suckboy hates Helen Zille is because the City of Cape Town didn't paint "SLOW" on his road. Just be thankful you have a road; here in North Riding they tore up 500m of road (for over a year) because it couldn't be repaired.
