You mean VDSL ???.

AT&T is rolling that out with their "Project Lightspeed" (fibre to the curb and copper to the last mile) and it is rather successfull I can gather.

Got a sms from Telkom this morning:

"ADSL order processed on 021976#### with own modem/own isp.Plse call 10217 if incorrect Ref #######/## Thanks Telkom"

Didn't know they sms you...

me either.. must be a new thing. nice :)

if you didn't give mobile number its creepy..

lol **makes ghost sounds**
they did this for a while now.
u can even request that when u log a fault Telkom will sms you the progress of it.
( dont know if its been rolled out yet - gonna go find out )

Haven't heard anything else from them...

Our secretary ordered her line last Monday 26 June. They phoned her today to say they're installing this coming on Monday. That's a 2 week around time!! Say WHAT!?

A techie came to install the line today (yes, Sunday ;) ). Plugs his modem in, no sync. Line is still on analogue. The printout Telkom gave him indicated that the line is plugged into the DSLAM, but it's not the case. Says he's coming back tomorrow. Eish.

Sentech gave crap again today, so I decided to stuff them, and upgrade the ISDN at the office to ADSL.

Phoned 10217, and within 2 minutes I was talking to a nice Telkom lady. Said I want to convert my ISDN to Analogue, and then put ADSL on there (just to minimize confusion) - she asked if I mean I want to upgrade ISDN to ADSL, and I said yes. Couldn't believe it. O well. At last someone who doesn't tell the client that they can't run ADSL on ISDN...

She gave me a installation date of 18 August.

So let's see what happens.

How come everyone has all the luck?...But Me?...I applied 6 weeks ago (Applying now for three and a half years in total)...But Alas! Still no ADSL...

The difference is that no one is going to call. The faults progress is input by some one (when u call for an update we read it off the computer) But now you shouldn’t have to because when its updated on the computer. The computer automatically sends an SMS to you with the update information.. no one is actually gonna be tying out all these SMS’s

GangStarr, why doesn't Telkom pay you or someone like you to do what you're doing on these forums? ffs.

I think its mainly cos most of what im doing on here I cant do and will lose my job for (and its telkom i mean wtf like they pay me already  ) but I dont really care cos I dont like it here :(

Yeah, but it's in their best interests to have u here. If you were in an official representation position you may be able to give them a positive image boost to some extent.

OK, phoned 0800 456 786 this morning (7 days since order).

They've allocated a port to me, and now a techie must go to the Durbanville exchange to go and have a look at something. That they will do today or tomorrow, and then someone will call me to setup a meeting.

So now I wait for that phonecall.

Day 22

We're on day 22 of the saga.

4/7: Ordered
11/7: Port allocated
14/7: Someone will call me 17/7 (no-one did)
19/7: Someone will call me 24/7 (no-one did)
26/7: They saw that there's still a ISDN port on my line, and they had to allocate a analogue port to it, that is done now, as well as the ADSL port allocation. Sent through to schedueling (sp??) department, someone will call me later today or tomorrow to give me a date.

Whatever.

Heh. I applied on the 27th of Feb. "No ports available". Exchange has since been upgraded. Ports have been available since at least the 6th of July. Now they just need to allocate me one. And that's where I've been sitting since the 6th. Wheeee...
