Ordered ADSL today... let's see

I thought this note should go here...

We should run a sticky for ADSL orders....

Phoned Telkom today to get my application in properly for ADSL as I got application forms faxed to me last week with tariffs for 2005...
Sweet lady in PE tells me that my ref no already has an order placed against it since last week.
"Cool," I say! "But I haven't placed an order yet, I have the docs, here on my desk."
"We have an order placed last week for a 512DSL line."
"But I want a 384 line"
"Do I Know that prices are going down tomorrow?" says the lady.
"Yes, but I still want a 384 line and I haven't put an order in yet."
"I can't help you with that, here's your order number and the ADSL helpline:eek: number. They will help you now."
"OK, but I haven't placed an order yet."
"You will be charged at the old rates for the first month or so, as you placed the order before 1 August."
"I beg your pardon??? are you:mad: ?"
"What if I cancel my order:rolleyes:and reorder tomorrow, will the price come down then?":rolleyes:
"Yes sir"
"thank you" and I died.

Some POSITIVE press for some Telkom people

I'm 1st to slag off Telkom for being a faceless bureacracy. So this note is genuinely written because I'm gobsmacked at the service I got on my ADSL order.

on 24 July (this year...) - Didn't really order it was an enquiry...
on 31 July - got the ususal help:eek: centre gumpf when I phoned to order...
on 2 August got a call from :- wait for it :- Jack. From Telkom asking whether we'd be in the next day or so they could install.
on 3 August checked with Telkom shop who had no entry in the system... Telkom lady called the techie and he confirmed for next day. I ran out and bought a Netgear 834GT and wifi stick for my laptop.
9am next day 2 techies arrived and spent 3 hours trying to get modem to work. It wouldn't so they left me with a Telkom modem and I took my netgear back into the shop. Swapped it out.
SUNDAY afternoon, Jack comes back to see if my modem works. Can't get swapped one to work so he leaves the Telkom modem with me for another day! TAKES my modem away and gets hold of Netgear dudes to resolves software conflicts with Telkom exchange.
Comes back next day and SETS EVERYTHING UP with a smile! DIdn't leave until it all worked smoothly. :D :cool:

28Kbps to 512KBps in 8 days. Surely that's a Telkom Landspeed record???? :)
There are GREAT Telkom people out there. It's the faceless call centre and management $!#$^%&&$ that screw it up for the good guys.
