overclocking

i have an amd 3000+ 787 or 797 or what ever u get the point

gigabyte board

how do i overclock it?
 
You need a MSI Neo2 board.. :) but you need the CPU with the Venice core to get it klapping the nice speeds cos those ones OC nicely..
 
wow ive heard ppl say they have overclocked to this and that

but its funny when someone asks no one answers

Depends on how much you want to overclock it. First thing I would check for is if you can "Lock Off" all the other components on the mobo. For example the PCI/AGP/PCI-E busses. If you raise the FSB and your other comonents are not locked off they will be overclocked as well.

Always try and lock off the other components. Other than that it is pretty easy. If I remember correctly with my gigabyte board you get software with it so you can overclock in windows. Just look for the FSB settings. It Should be at 200Mhz. You should be able to raise this to about 220 with no problems. On my CPU that takes it from 2400Mhz to 2640Mhz.

If you want to see what your system can do then simply raise the FSB in increments and test/benchmark each time to see if it is stable. I only ever do small overclocks. Have had my cpu to 2800 though.

lol.. i would help but i didn't oc muh pc, a guy who has the same setup did the oc'ing.. his is running much faster and he gets massive scores but isnt as stable.

Remember, Google is your friend :)

Well rebooting is not a good thing. You don't really get that much of a performance gain anyway. What was the FSB at and what did you take it to?
 
i took it to 220 rand at around 2.3 i think from 2 but then keep rebooting

even if i take it to 202 it reboots
maybe gigabye is no good for overclocking
and the software that you can in windows, the minute i change and click apply it freezes my system
 
its almost summer now so if you dont have a good cooling solution i would steer clear cause you will struggle with stability.
if you really want to oc get your cooling solution sorted out first.
otherwise dont waste your time

I believe you need good memory as well to be able to raise the front side bus speed.
 
Yeah...to rule out ram problems clock your ram lower before you raise your FSB. I got a Athlon64 3000, FSB running at 230 and Ram running at DDR460(samsung DDR400) so that's a overall increase of 15% running rock solid stable. Overclocking is a simple matter if you know what your doing. Fact is not all hardware overclocks well, and that should be a consideration when your buying new hardware. My tip to you would be do research...lots of it....get clued up on all aspects of o/cing. Then try again.
