haha
Well hey, I applied around 15 May...and phoned Telkom about 25 times, whereas one deparment tells me that it's on its way, and another says they've exceeded capacity in my area. Finally one of the "senior" folks told me that the "exchange cannot handle the capacity, and it's due for an upgrade".
Weird...since 2 weeks later, 2 people near me got their ADSL, one being my brother, who applied 1 month AFTER me - and he's apparently on the same exchange, according to Telkom's own people.
I phoned again, and was told that upgrades are to start in August (this is now when I phoned around 15 July). They then stated that upgrades would be finished by round about 1 November...
Now please tell me how it can take almost 4 months to upgrade an exchange, when it's already ADSL capable? I'm no expert in "exchange upgrades", but that sounds ridiculous.
Well, 2 months later, I actually got a letter in the post from Telkom, stating that I can't get my ADSL that I applied for MONTHS earlier. So the people who wrote the letter didn't seem to know about the multitude of phonecalls I made either - seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
Best part is that it's now 16 November...2 weeks AFTER their supposed deadline. And guess what - no calls from Telkom, no follow-up on my application for an ADSL line almost SIX MONTHS ago. I've now gone with a wireless internet provider. Pay a slight bit more, but in all honesty, I'm quite tempted to just tell Telkom to ...((insert imaginary rude statement here)).
60 days. Bah!!! What a joke.
