Good day...

when trying to process a journal in pastel partner 2007 a error pops up and shuts pastel down..
pastel is installed on windows vista business and the main folder is installed on a server... win 2003 sbs..

error message..

status 46( access to file denied )
file 42 ( postdated batches - accbtn(batchno). 000(user))
Opcode 2 ( insert )
pastel will no terminate...

Is there any solution to this problem.. your help will be greatlly apprecited..

Thanks

Yes there is!
Phone pastel lol.
On that note, try running the application as an Administrator.
Also ensure that you have the access/modify/read-write rights to the folder on Server 2003. Its under file permissions.
Pastel should help you step by step.

hello..

thank you for the quick response on this..

I have tried that what you have just explained.. does not work..

here is the funny thing..

if i try and process a Inv, works like a charm...
and one more thing..
Working on another computer that is running Win Xp pro all functions work ok.

Do you have Pastel Support Cover, cos they won't help you if you don't. I have a client that uses pastel with the support package from pastel and I have to figure out how to fix it if something wrong.

Check the file permissions and see if everything is correct/allowed. Was it previously working or is this a new installation on vista?

Pastel... the worst piece of software ever.

Not in the sense that it doesn't work, it does, it's great, but if you have corruption or problems, the people who can help you will make so much money!!! :)

I've edited my post. Once I read through your error a bit more.
Also ensure you have admin right in pastel.

trust me i called pastel they put me through to the support dept..
i explained the issue and only then they tell me that i need the support cover thing..

Another lady friend of mine called them about this issue.. now i'm not sure if they just didn't want to help her but she is fully covered and up todate and the response she got was..that they don;t knwo how to sort this issue out..
so i'm stuck with that..

If its urgent install XP on the machine until you figure it out.

Check your read-write rights on the company folder under C:\Pastel07.

missions, where are you located?

It works great in Xp..
This is a new Vista installation that i have done..
and it's on the journals that are giving trouble..

we had to resort to going back to his old laptop..
Myself and the Financial manager had a feeling that we should not format his old laptop..
so that's got him back on track for now.. but i think that there has to be some other solution to this issue.

I have checked all the access controls and rights that i can think of.
i have added the user and a member of the administrators
and i have added the individual user also. and have given them both full rights.
i have removed all the rights from all pastel shared folders and started over and still the same issue

I just did a search on the forum and there are a few threads relating to vista/pastel:

According to one of the threads you need to install the newer version of Pervasive (9.6 or 9.7 or 10is the latest).

Heres the THreads:

Pastel Website, with Vista Insall Guide:

Hope this helps.

let me give that one a try..
i have installed Pervasive Ver 9.6.

do you think that i should get the other versions as well..

thank you for all those forums... i have gone through them..

The first thing i do is disable the UAC i know that it's not advisable but it just saves alot of client frustration..

i am going to have a look at this laptop again just to check if i have missed something
and this is going to be for the 5th time now..

I will send a updated post here so that everyone knows about the solution...

thank you all that have replied to this link..

Pastel is the biggest POS program I've ever had the displeasure of having to use

Can't believe people actually pay for it, I'd be running the auto setup and typing in the start and end of the financial year, one typo and the program crashes, they seriously need to get a proper programmer to sort their crappy little program out.

/rant.

EDIT: I just had a look and Pastel doesn't have a wikipedia page, that just proves how low budget it is but seriously though, is it a South African program or something?

morning to all..

just a quick update.. i had a consultant that does a serious amount of work with the pastel product and they are also stumped with this problem.. and people are pushing us to downgrade to windows Xp..

what does this mean about the pastel Product?

i must say that my client has not been having problems with pastel for over a year.. but from the day that we went onto Vista that's when all the issues started..

but so far no positive results are set to this issue...
