[Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

Hmm do they always expect you to bring it in? Or is that just for certain sizes.

Samsung at least sent them to my house...many many times.
Actually I never considered calling for collection. Maybe Hisense does that too.

Working through the retailer the first time took ages, so second time I just took the TV directly to Hisense service center.

I would have called if I had a larger TV though

So I decided to take the plunge into the Hisense world.. They have been around for some time now and have 'matured', they have some great looking TV's and great panels to match.. Let's not forget the 3 year warranty which becomes 4 if you register your TV..

I went ahead and got the hx40n2177f.. It's for the bedroom and won't do much other than DSTV and Netflix, so feature wise it's fine.. I pull it out the box at home, get it on my wall mount and switch it on.. I am very impressed with the picture quality, it is fantastic.. around 20 or so minutes in the TV switches itself off and on again.. Weird, I think but I shrug it off.. A minute or so later, switches itself off and on again and continues endlessly doing this around every minute or so..

I record this odd behavior with my camera so I can show it to the guys at the Hisense repair center when I take the TV to them.. Sadly, regardless of whether or not they see the video I made, they need to see this happen for themselves before they can take any further action i.e repair/replace.. They did ask whether I wanted to repair or replace and I said I wanted a new unit..

As far as I am concerned this is an out of box failure and within 7 days I would expect a replacement unit when I specifically show you the evidence of it malfunctioning..

I am willing to give Hisense a chance and waiting on the repair center to finish their testing..

I got a replacement TV today. Faulty mainboard was as detailed as the diagnosis got.. The new one is running now and being monitored for the same behavior..

Annoyingly, the TV has a loud hum over the actual audio.. I connect to my soundbar via 3.5mm headphone jack on the TV to the one on the soundbar.. I noticed this on the broken TV as well.. I have tried different cables with no difference and I know it's not the soundbar as it worked fine on the previous TV I connected the same way.. Looks like a crappy quality jack on the TV end.. sigh..

I realise now that the hum is likely a ground loop issue.. Since it is not the soundbar it has to be on the TV side.. Not sure how to test or isolate this as the issue though..

The only fix is not to buy this crap. The reviews on takealot tell a story about the quality hisense is

Thanks for your opinion but, I would prefer a helpful answer or none at all.. I am well aware of the reviews but, I am also well aware of people who have no issues with their Hisense TV's.. I chose to take the risk and I am happy with the TV except for this sound issue..

If you are willing to EFT me the 6k for a Samsung or a LG, let me know and I will pm you my banking details.. Not everyone can afford the 'premium' stuff and take what they can get..

My parents bought themselves a a Hisense Smart Tv after i got them into watching Netflix and Showmax
It works perfectly, The only problem is that it doesn't support Showmax
Netflix and Youtube on the other hand work like a charm

Exactly. And spending more is no assurance of anything. Bought an LG 42" smart for around R11k about 7 years ago. After 12 months the mainboard was faulty. LG could not source a replacement, but because it had a 24 month factory warrant they replaced the TV. However had the mainboard died in month 25 then I could have binned the TV. So far nothing wrong with the 4 x Hi-Sense TV's I bought 16 months ago. Paying more assures you of nothing.

Or could even be your house at fault and not the TV at all.

Then the previous TV, JVC, should have had the same issue which it didn't.. The only thing that changed is the TV..
Let me rephrase that then.

It could be that the new TV is showing up an underlying issue that the previous one camouflaged.

Could every be that the act of swopping out the TV's caused an issue with the sound bar.

3 prong to 3 prong plugs between both?

Underlying issue I can agree with but, I plugged multiple other devices in via the 3.5mm jack, none of which exhibits the same behaviour..

Only the TV has this hum..

Very strange. I had this with my Logitech Z-5500's way back when.

Was the old TV on 3-prong plug and this one on a 2-pin?

But now a strange question...why are you using 3.5mm at all and not just HDMI?

The sound bar supports either Bluetooth, optical or 3.5mm jack.. The TV doesn't have optical so I am stuck with 3.5mm jack..

Samsung HW J250..

TV doesn't do BT..

I am looking for some RF chokes I can pop onto the 3.5mm cable in case it is interference of some kind causing the hum.. They are cheap, so worth the try..
Ferrite beads? Cheap but hard to find in the digital era.

1. Are you running the TV and soundbar off the same wall socket?
2. Have you got a multiplug of some sorts plugged in to this socket? Often these multiplugs are not earthed properly, especially the cheaper ones and usually we buy the cheapest we can find.
3. Are both the TV and soundbar running off 3 prong plugs, or is the soundbar on a 2 prong Euro plug?

Firstly try running a extention cord from a total different socket in your house, it must be a different room so that the socket is on a totally different circuit, then hear if the 50 Hz hum is still there. If it's still there, then you know it's not the wall socket.
Next swop out the multiplug if you use one, if not that, swop out the power cords if you can.
Finally try a different 3.5mm audio cable, try get a higher quality one.

the same happens on a different plug, hum when connected to the tv and no hum when connected to another device.. It is definitely the TV that is at fault here somehow..
