Philips Airfryer - anyone have?

Festive break saw my diet break, and can confirm that frozen chips done in a Philip's Air fryer are the business! Also resurrected day old Burger King fries beautifully!

Now it's back on the wagon, and time to find some low carb air fryer things to do again :)

bit the bullet today and got the Philips Avance Collection Airfryer XL HD9240/92 for R2699

Now to see if I've got some stuff in the freezer to make.....

I was really holding out to get the XXL at a decent price but after looking at this video I think I'll just bite the bullet and get the XL as there doesnt seem like there's much between them.

Below video in dutch but if you're afrikaans and put the captions on you can make out most of what he says

Also comparing the 2 models confirms there's hardly a change in capacity; only a slight bump in power and the addition of other heatig modes / touchscreen etc.

The XL has a touch screen also.

made some frozen oven chips in my newly acquired XL - not overly impressed - will add some oil next time

Also made chicken drums/thighs/wings - sprayed them with peri-peri oil, lemon juice and put some salt and ground black pepper, waited and hour and blasted them at 170 for about 20mins and then 200 for 5mins - ABSOLUTELY f'ing delicious!!! can't wait to make it again!

We tossed our frozen chips in olive oil and spices, definitely needs fats to come out well I think.

Some things we got up to since Saturday.

Stuffed mushrooms (used Woolworths tricolore dip, mixed it up, topped with grana panado shavings), and Woolworths stuffed gemsquash (creamed spinach and cheese, premade). The beef espatada in photo was done on the braai.

Next up, tuna fishcakes. These were made with one can of tuna in brine, 1tbs mayo, 2tbs almond flour, and seasoning to taste. I did them at 200c for 15 minutes. Would recommend 10 and letting them stand after to firm up, as I found them a bit dry.

This eve was pork fillet in the airfryer, sliced before we put it in for quicker cooking; done at 200c for 15 minutes. Served on some fresh salad stuffs

How to make Potato Fries in a Philips Air Fryer:

1.
Peel the potatoes and cut them (with a French fries cutter) into long, 8 mm
thick strips.
2.
Soak the fries in water for at least 30 minutes. Drain them thoroughly and
then pat them dry with kitchen paper.
3.
Preheat the airfryer to 150°C. Carefully coat the potato strips in oil in a wide
bowl and transfer them to the fryer basket.
4.
Slide the basket into the airfryer and set the timer to 5 minutes. Pre-fry the
fries until they are crisp tender and allow them to cool.
5.
Now increase the airfryer temperature to 180°C. Slide the basket with the
fries into the airfryer again and set the timer to 12-16 minutes. Fry the fries
golden brown.

Yes, you have to add a little oil. The advantage of the air fryer is you use much less oil, but you still need a little oil if you're going to make fries.

This is my go to product for proper crispness. I've used an olive oil spray before but personally I find the taste of olive oil bit overpowering even in the small quantities used through the spray. This is nice and neutral.

For instance to get serious crispy chicken skin or pork crackling you need to eliminate as much moisture as possible before frying. But that also means spices and salt doesn't adhere to those parts as nicely. This fixes that problem 100% with minimal oiliness and added calories.

Chicken pieces, eisbein, pork rashers and even the kiddies fries get a spray of this before seasoning and finishing the frying.
