The best slap chips I had was a cafe in Potchefstroom. But that was more than a decade ago and probably the only thing I miss of that cesspit of papsak town.Yeah the American type that literally tastes like dirt.

You serve slap chips to anybody in the world outside South Africa and they'll ask you "Why are you serving me undercooked oil soaked potatoes?"The best slap chips I had was a cafe in Potchefstroom. Is it a Slap Russian?Nothing beats proper slap chips. Russians and slap chips ... yummy
Mine took about 3 burn ins for the smell to go away. While the smell was there it didn't affect the taste of food at all. You did remember to remove the cardboard below the basket before switching it on?Recently bought an Instant Pot Vortex. Ran it through the initial burn is as per the manual... except the smell is not going away and is as strong as ever, even after a third attempt. Is this normal and how long does it take to go away? And is there any way to speed up the process?
Pretty much unusable at the moment... unless you actually like plastic flavoured food.
Is it a Slap Russian?
Yes, I carefully removed everything and washed the basket and interior. Done the burn-in 3 times already, though I don't have an oven-safe dish small enough to fit in the basket. I'll try to grab one tomorrow. Hopefully, this will work, since it's too late to return it to the store for a swap or refund. I wonder if the warranty covers a perpetually stinky appliance?Mine took about 3 burn ins for the smell to go away. While the smell was there it didn't affect the taste of food at all. Thoroughly was basket and inside of air fryer. Do burn-in process. You can also put a small amount of water + lemon juice + white vinegar in a oven safe container and run it through bake-in with that inside. Apparently that helps, but wasn't something I tried.

I got me one of them vortex thingies too, there was/is a smell. I say was because I don't smell it and I say is because the wife does!! I've burned mine in 4 times and used it about half dozen times atleast already but only when the wife isn't home. Last week I did whole chicken and 'tatoe wedges, wife ate only the salad I made alongside, she said the food smelled of air fryer. The kids and I ate no problem. Maybe the smell is still there and I am in denial, or my wife has seriously good smell. Either way it is a disappointment that this fantastic appliance is not used to full potential. So perhaps vortex has inherent smell issues.Yes, I carefully removed everything and washed the basket and interior. The smell is quite powerful; I had to do the last two burn-ins outside otherwise the whole house would stink. Fortunately, I had the kitchen door closed the first time. I was expecting a smell but nothing of that magnitude!
