Phone recommendation for parent

Don't pick the Nokia 2.2 and I'd avoid the 2.3 due to the MT6761, it's not a great processor. Note that the newer mediatek series is great, the G77 and Dimensity 800/820/1000+ series, but they're all mid-range and up and should only be coming to market now.

I wouldn't pick LG due to basically no OS update support.

Note the new Nokia 3.3 should be announced within the next two months, but that's quite long to wait for something if you need it now. The Snapdragon 460 is a huge upgrade (android authority states Qualcomm claims a 70% improvement over the 450), and the 3.3 should probably have it on launch.

I'm assuming the price per month includes data? Since 169*24= R4k and the 3.2 is R2.7k on takealot currently. This is the 4.2, 3GB RAM model for R3k (R125 a month average).
3000mAh should be fine for this segment though, you're powering half the pixels of most mid-range phones and those come with 3500-4000mAh batteries. Android 9/10 also has a lot better battery management than older Android versions.
Lol that's high end.

Just throwing this in here for the hell of it:

I've a little Nokia1. Had it for more than a year now. No issues. Tough and small and easy to use.

Runs Android GO without ever freezing on me. Not even once since I've had it.
Not fast. Thing's take a second longer to do than a phone costing maybe 5X as much. Current price if you can find one in stock is around R800.

The longer you use this little phone the more you appreciate it's toughness, ease of use and excellent call clarity.

Perfect for me. For R800 nothing can touch it. This post typed on it like all my others here for the last year.
You only see it's flaws when you use it side by side with something proper.

Now and again it irritates me. But I love it. And have grown to treasure it

Yeah. I've also got good and bad days lol.

I just get a top up contract. bro takes that sim anyway.
lol he also has the 8 Scirocco I got for him on black friday. actually the contract I am upgrading.

I wrote mid-range and up, and the Dimensity 800 (MT6873) is for mid-range, it's competing with the Snapdragon 690.

Based on the CPU configuration of the Dimensity 800, we are looking at a chipset that beats the Snapdragon 720G, Snapdragon 730, and Snapdragon 730G in performance and efficiency.
That's upper mid range.
