That's upper mid range.
Conclusion The Dimensity 800 is a pretty impressive chipset on paper and we look forward to seeing it in a commercially-available smartphone soon so we can experience its real-world performance. The chipset should be a game-changer as it is expected to bring 5G to devices priced under $300 which is the budget for a significant percentage of phone buyers.
From your article.
And they're actually comparing the 820. The 820 is vs the 700 series, the 800 is against the top of the 600 series.

Hi guys

I have a Vodacom contract due for upgrade next month, so I am going to get my mum a new phone.

So I narrowed it down to the following:
View attachment 870909

Considerations:
  • Age - most released 2019/2020
  • Obviously cheaper is better
  • She doesn't have large hands, so I don't want something huge
  • OS - 10 is better, released on 10 even better as more likely to get an update
  • I prefer Snapdragon as parents have 2 Motos with SD and they have lasted and performance is okay. Also when I upgrade them in future I would like to custom rom/experiment, like I am gonna do with the Moto, and SDs have more support usually
  • More memory and Ram is better, I listed base as I don't know which VC stocks, so worst case
  • Battery - larger is better but also screen size is a factor

Your constructive thoughts or recommendations welcome
From that list the LG W30 is the best. Android 9 will still be supported for years to come.

I know Vivo is big in the Aisan market, this any good?

nvm Xiaomi a much better choice for a little less

So you can buy devices from them on account, 6 months interest free.

And they stock dual sims.

Seems I have found a winner!

Phone contracts are a scam. There is a mindset in South Africa that you have to buy your device from the service provider coupled with your contract. Providers in the US cancelled this system years ago. If only SA followed suit.

Common sense and safe usage are more important still.
That's not how it works. If you have a software flaw and it never gets patched, there's nothing you can do about. Safe usage habits should be followed either way, it's not mutually exclusive.

They have? Most still provide contracts in the US, and all SA providers and e.g. Takealot sell the phones cash as well.

Finally got my TFG card.

But I see the Vivo Y11 is only R200 more than the 8A.

Anyone got experience with Vivo?
