Ping to EU increased

Just phoned them, they cant migrate during December/Jan, and even then I will experience an unspecified amount of downtime. I work from home. Jesus this is a mess. I would switch rn if I could.

The guy from Tech5 says they take the shortest available route and that nothing changed on their end. There are no local settings that could impact this right?
No settings on your side can change routing - well that i have been able to find online in the past.

One solution potentially would be to get a VPN with Cape Town servers, i know Cyberghost has CT servers if i recall.

I got nordvpn to try and fix it, when I change my location to London it decreases ping slightly. Idk dude. Im waiting to hear from cool ideas, apparantly people don't work in December. Sorry for all thee effort, and I appreciate it

To see an affective route to the server you would need to get a VPN server that is hosted in CPT. Most of the VPN servers are hosted in JHB.

Your trace route shows traffic from CPT > JHB > France via EASSy so the latency you are getting is acceptable for that route. It's definitely not the route for the lowest latency. The lowest would be CPT > London via WACS which should be around ~143ms for people in CPT and ~160ms for people in JHB.

The route they have you on might be the best route for them because from JHB to France via Seacom or EASSy is about 159ms give or take which is not bad.

Who is your fibre provider? You can definitely migrate.

HI man, wow I didn't receive a notification

I am with vumatel
I phoned cool ideas and they advised against doing it in December. I am almost willing to just have a new line installed right now but that would cost an extra 1.7k above the monthly cost.

@PBCool I have organized for cancellation with Tech5 at the end of november, and have ordered with cool ideas. The issue now is they say they can't even send me a router until the cancellation is complete. This means I will have to wait for courier times etc and have significant downtime. Can something not be done about this? Can't I pay a deposit or something and they send me the router so that once the line is released we can simply activate?

I can have the router sent to you beforehand do you have your ref for me?

All that effort for a few ms delay?
And then tomorrow, the bean counters in your new ISP change a contract and you will be back to square one.
You guys are all soft in the head.
Thank you Geoff for your valid contribution. If you played ranked dota, you would know that 30ms makes a significant difference on a mechanical level. The real issue however, is that a senior network technician at an isp tells me something is optimal when it is not, and refuses to assist.

But that said, maybe I am just soft in the head.

Can confirm in a game like dota the difference between 150 and 200ms playing characters like Pudge etc is huge, even last hitting creeps at 150 is very difficult compared to 17ms.

Hi there
My apologies if this is moping, lol. Sorry my ISP is Tech5, I thought I included it in my original post. Without the VPN, the issue seemed to be the jhb routing. With it, there is improvement.

I have been running tracert to try and find the issue. But granted I'm not a network expert, I'm not sure how to do the things you are asking

What type of router do you have, I'd like to guide you on troubleshooting this.

This is very true, I play League on EUW servers and the lowest I've ever seen my ping was about 165ms but that had packet loss Octotel (Axxess Uncapped), I wish they would install a server here already.

Rather change it now than to leave it as it is, the clients current ISP isn't able to assist him because they're just doing their job, this is why I always refer my clients to Atomic Access and Cool Ideas, their network quality is superior and having the ability to communicate with someone who actually knows what they're talking about instead of "um yeah um, I've escalated your problem" then get a response a week later with someone who didn't even take the time to investigate what was wrong and contact you with an apology along with a solution so the client doesn't feel like their time was completely wasted, I swear some of these companies let their ego go to their heads, I've never been on to diss someone based on what they do to earn an income but if you're going to be a bot that passes the bak then don't have an attitude, we all want the same thing.

Atomic Access: 145ms from Cape Town to London apparently.
