Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!

Had Debonairs again, my word what's wrong with people?

Sweet sticky sauce, cheap meat scraps, bland base, very little cheese, and that crammed (with what only I can think of as pink slime) crust.

It's been said many times in this thread that Debonairs can be great if you don't order standard pizzas on the menu but rather customise them.

Before you took a bite out of your pizza I could have told you it would be crap. Regular base, crammed crust and preconfigured ingredient list. Your prospect of success was close to zero.

Buy from the rustic range...

As with other aspects of the Debonairs experience, the rustic range varies from branch to branch. I don't like them, and I've given them a fair chance.

Thin and crispy versions of normal pizzas is much better imo.

Debonairs is crap.

Incorrect. Debonairs can be crap if you don't understand how to order from them.

I also thought so based on experience. But someone here mentioned you can customise your pizza when you order online and indeed you can select a thin base, extra cheese, no sauce etc. That then makes it a pretty decent pizza. Had the Something Meaty Saturday evening and it was really good.

You can customise over the phone and counter too. Online is just the most convenient because you can take your time, see all the options and prices clearly, chop and change the cart as you please and pay online.

There are an infinite number of ways to order fantastic pizzas, because customisation is quite big. I've also recently enjoyed the Something Meaty, but by switching the (polony style) ham for mushrooms and also choosing thin base. Sometimes I change other things too just to experiment.

The Original Veggie on a thin base with added sweet bell peppers is amazing btw if you have vegetarian friends or family.

The only Debonairs pizza I like is the chicken and mushroom. It is so delicious. All their others are crap.

If you're only ordering the default Debonairs pizzas you're already off to a very bad start. Get customising man.

Not my order, it was a family outing and this was what I had to eat. If I'm going to be bothered with ordering a pizza I will order Butlers thank you very much.

That's just the icing on the cake (I always tip anyway). It's just the whole experience is unrivalled and unmatched.

Hardly..

Their pizza is generally shyte, so they can make the ordering process as slick as possible, the whole experience is still not great.

:crylaugh:

I was trying not to do that... but I whole heartedly agree...

I eat debonairs from time to time, but they top out at average/acceptable pizza.. never great pizza.

Except they can make great pizzas. From what you two have said in this thread it seems you're judging Debonairs by the worst food that they make. Just learn to order properly.

Oh I do order properly...

The standard options are SHYTE pizza.. the highly customised stuff is average/acceptable pizza.. NEVER great.

Correction: never great at the branch you were using.

My family orders Debonairs every Wednesday for a wide variety of tastes, and 99% of the time the food is exceptional. Easily some of the best pizza to be found anywhere in town. And probably the best service - delivery is always punctual (although we're nearby) and the manager started calling/messaging to verify aspects of the order and to check that we're happy quite early into us becoming regular customers.

I once placed a similar order to our typical ones at my dad's house with his nearest branch and the food was crap. Arrived late, too little or too much cheese from pizza to pizza, nonsensical quantities of different toppings, soggy bases, customisations ignored (even with paid-for additions and not just substitutions) worst olives ever etc. So I can certainly concede that some Debonairs branches just don't give a fk and might be worth avoiding altogether. I guess you're unlucky in that regard, because the pizzas we get every week are bloody fantastic. And although our Debonairs is quite close, we have a proper artisan-style rustic pizza place literally around the corner. We still prefer Debonairs.

I'll try remember to take some pics this Wednesday so you can see what I'm talking about.

We clearly have different standards of what falls under exceptional.

Take Away is just never in that realm, and very rarely even breaks into great.

Writing off takeaways makes no sense. Any pizza place caters for takeaway orders. I even have a pizza oven at home and although there's a fun and social element to homemade pizzas (and experimenting with ingredients) that makes it worthwhile, I wouldn't rate them as better than the Debonairs we order every week.

Perhaps you'll change your mind if I manage to post some pics. Clearly you and I are talking about entirely different Debonairs experiences.

Probably not, we're talking entirely different culinary experiences...

A pizza place that is a restaurant that does Take Away, is very very very very very different from a place that is a Take Away...

In your experience. We'll pick this up on Wednesday night.
