hey guys......
I downloaded a skin thing for my windows XP that is suppost to make it look line windows7.. i let it install and when i came back it told me i had to reboot windows, i did but B4 i saw it sayd stuff in the installation "modifying system files" when windows was shuting down everything looked like windows7 but when it was rebooting it would just crash... when i start in safe mode it starts booting all the files but then again crash... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone help me i feel like im about to cry, i cant reinstall windows cus then ill loose EVERYTHING.....

If you re - install Windows, you do not need to lose everything. You can specify not to format or you can do a repair install.
 
Sure thing. Hopefully your applications that have registry entries will still work but the more important data (documents, etc) won't be lost - unless you saved them to the Windows directory (???).
 
No i upgraded the PC just 3 days ago and it's already ******, i just have to find my XP CD now.....
 
I`d recommend u make a copy of the hard disk before u reinstall, plug it into a different pc and just copy everything into a folder. if u have the space offcourse on another pc. but generally repair wont delete much if anything. or try system restore, that might also work.

I'm fairly certain you will be just fine, if it doesn't then a replacement install of Windows with no format should be enough to do the trick.

Also, let this be a lesson to make backups.
 
Advise for the future...

It is allways good to Make a Snapshot of your hard drive on a 2nd partition for cases where you install software that modifies windows files.

To change the XP look that Windows 7 skin will propable change alot of system files.

A software that I purchased a while back works for me. Acronis. You can also go with Norton Ghost.

Don't install pointless software that makes an OS look like something it's not.
 
You just need to replace that style .dll, I can't remember its name tho

You can also use Macrium Reflect Free Edition

It works wonders for me! It makes an entire image of your HDD. You can restore it with a boot-able CD.
