Hey guys.

I've scoured our cyberspace for answers but every site gives another opinion. So I thought if I can't get a conclusive answer from mybroadband forums then I won't get it anywhere. :D

I'm purely a gamer and was wondering what o/s would give me the best gaming performance for my current rig:

AMD Athlon x2 4600+ @ 2.4Ghz
Gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2L
Leadtek Nvidia GTX 260 Extreme+
4GB DDR2-677 ram.

But I will soon be upgrading to:

Intel Core2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
BIOSTAR P43-A7
Leadtek Nvidia GTX 260 Extreme+
4GB DDR2-677 ram.

So which o/s between:

Windows XP x86
Windows XP x64
Vista x86
Vista x64
Windows 7 x86
Windows 7 x64

would give me the best performance in gaming. thanks. BTW. is there really a performance difference between x86 and x64?

Windows 7. Not too sure about the 32 vs 64 bit debate but Win 7 is your only choice.

Windows 7 x64. 32-bit operating systems only support up to 4GB of RAM (usually about 3.5GB available for use), so 64-bit will definitely give you a performance increase, especially if you plan on upgrading the RAM in future.

+1

I would say XP but the you would miss out on your Direct X 10, SO Windows 7 (x64 may have compatibility issues tho...)

goodness this forum is fast with replies. lol.
That was my same thoughts about the x64. so for sure windows 7 x64.
