Pools lead to potholes - JRA

Just a shame that the road I drive on every day, doesn't have any houses in it (only business), and it is full of potholes.
Guess it must be the great pool in the sky's fault :p
 
As far as I know backwashed water runs on the side of the road straight into the drain? Unless you get those people that let the water run in the middle of the road where the cars drive.

So, the residents were forced to act to prevent catastrophe, and now you're using your failure to act as an excuse. It's blatantly obvious to me that no normal person would willingly dig up a tar road unless there was a real serious problem.

Back to the swimming pools issue:
If a pool owner is pumping pool water onto the road, if the road was constructed properly, then the water would run in the gutter to the drain point, it would not even be on the road.

JRA is obviously run by complete and utter morons.
 
Meteorites and IEDs (improvised explosive devices) like they have in Iraq also cause potholes. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that in SA, these two factors are more of a pothole-causing issue than ****ing backwashed swimming pools, you bunch of incompetent idiots.

I thought it was illegal to let your pool run off into the street, you are supposed to let it run off in your yard... maybe if the council enforced the bylaws properly instead of employing that troop of trained Rhinos we might not have this problem... .not that I really believe it is a problem anyway. This is deflection at it's best.

Of course there budget is diminishing, it does that if the money is pinched by corrupt officials. If you increase a budget say from 100 mill to 200 mill but now 175 mill is stolen instead of just 50 mill you do end up with a smaller budget.
 
In fact, reading this article again makes my blood boil even more. It's like catching a kid with paw in the now-empty cookie jar, crumbs dotting its chubby cheeks, and other paw furiously pointing at the bewildered looking cat.

Ah, they must be talking about that group of teenagers cruising the town at midnight with a couple of hard hats and a jack hammer. :rolleyes: Then "ageing infrastructure". Now that's a pearler right there. The roads got old! There's yer problem! And who's job is it to ensure that age has a minimal effect on the condition of the roads?? Then, as mentioned, "diminishing budgets"....I mean facepalm...facepalm...facepalm...FACEPALM! :mad:

It's not "dimishing budgets" it's inflated prices from the tender process that is being unfortunately sidelined by corruption (especially within the DOT) that favours so-called contractors that are incapable of doing the job efficiently and correctly.

Where they come with swimming pools causing the problem, yeah right. There's a big difference between the effects that ground water, leaking services, and surface water run-off has on a road. Common factors for causing road damage are overloading and speeding (obviously shoddy maintenance and construction plays a big part) that weakens the whole road structure over time.

They are talking rubbish.

The major cause of potholes is fatigue of the surface due to water and heavy traffic. As far as water is concerned, it is rain water and leaks from damaged servitude that are major culprits.

The problem in johannesburg is poor stormwater drainage causing standing water everywhere. Standing water increases the moisture content of the subgrade, which reduces the strength of the subgrade. When the subgrade is weak, the surface will be unable to bear traffic loads and a pothole is formed.
 
Eish these white imperialists and their oppressing swimming pools must be punished.

The reason the roads are in such a lousy condition is because JRA never fixes them properly in the first place!
 
I notice they also blame the increase in town house complexes, of which they're quite happy to take additional rates and taxes. Less work, more pay, eh?
