With summer just rolling in for the George and surrounding regions, it’s heating up my work from home office space immensely.

I work with the door closed, blocking out external sound and noise for my teams sessions and urgent calls.

The room gets direct sunlight from 8-4pm, so it’s a little sauna. Tends to stay around 27-30 degree celsius

A fan helps nothing at this point.

We have a 12000btu for our main room which does the trick nicely, but to move this whole kit around and the fittings is just a pain.

The room is 4x3, 12 sqm roughly
Would a 7000btu suffice for this office space, and what advice can you give me to trap the het in the outlet exhaust pipe, keeping it there and not heating up the room further.

Why the portable? We’re renting

Nope. Portable makes a huge noise and basically blows cold air. You can't trap the heat in the exhaust pipe - It needs to exit the room.

Indeed
Let me rephrase
The outlet goes out the window. Yet the pipe itself has heat coming off it. What can i wrap the pipe with to keep it in the pipe and out the window

You are not going to run the portable Aircon during teams and other calls.. makes way too much noise..

I would watch this before buying one
I know they're not ideal, believe me, I have one.
But seeing as we can't install a split unit, these units are all we have.
They don't bring the room to 21, sure, but they do break that 30-degree celsius which is insane to sit and work in.
Well aware that they keep heat inside the room.

Might need to re visit those window-mounted units.
They chow the electricity, but seem to do a way better job that the portables

A powerful fan does work. We only have aircons in the bedrooms. Yesterday was a scorcher, fan in the lounge was workimg amd doing its job.

I wish! I have a rather large fan and it's not doing its job
I need to keep the door closed while working, so it just circulates the heat

Sooo, just hit a deal with the landlord, he'll pay 50% of the invoice and signed off on email.
A local company has the Midea Extreme 12000BTU installed and everything for R10.8k. Install this in our boiling hot main bedroom, and move the portable to my office space.

Then get some perspex and cut out the pipe/exhaust, slot it onto the window frame and I have a better-sealed room with a portable running at low

Seeing that I'll pay R5400 (The price of a portable) this made way more sense.

Unit installed, to my surprise, they called me and asked if I was home? Hell yeah I am!
They did a neat and professional job
Cooled the room in 10-15mins, and went to have a look at the power draw on the inverter, still trying to reach 20, it was drawing 550-600W, amazed!
Once it got the room down to 20, it was idling between 100-200W (Which means I can run this bad boy on the inverter and battery bank)

How k$k does this make my portable look now? Trying the eco sleep mode tonight, done with that fan blowing over me and the wife

My wife is so chuffed, she's in there, door closed, cleaning the room haha.
