With a compatible router, external antennas, and a tower that broadcasts the B38 band, you can get the "Up to 10Mbps" speeds.

Rain operates on B3 and B38.
B3 is the default and is always congested, which is why most users get terrible speeds.

B38 is less congested, however does not penetrate as easily as B3. Which is why external antennas are required for better signal.

I'm by no means an expert on this, but with help from @cavedog and @jbroo , I managed to resolve the issue.

Router: Huawei B525s-65a
Antenna: Poynting Xpol6
B38 tower distance: 3,36 km (clear line of sight)

Nice guide, thanks for the mention. You're lucky you got good results on B38. My results were less impressive.

Thanks for this buddy ...

I lot of people don’t no about the 38 band ...

But the more you guys put it out there ... they get the idea of how to make it work ...

I have been struggling with my Rain sim for now long I have it and it should be over about 2 years now ... the best speeds I had was 2 megabytes that’s the best I go but nothing more nothing else ... hopefully I’ll fix this ... soon ... I’ll keep you guys posted ... i did however test the band change with the router at work with a rain sim and I got 78mbps ... that’s hectic stuff right there but at home I a red light ... so hopefully I’ll get and antenna soon to see if this helps me ...

Nice guide.

I'm using Tp-link Mr600. Will this guide work on it?

The router supports the correct bands. As far as I can tell there is no way to force that router to a certain band though.

Apparently, there's beta firmware that allows you to select bands on your particular router. Not sure where you would find it or perhaps if the firmware is out of beta and you can simply install the latest firmware.

This beta firmware allows you to manually set bands.
I have it on my router and it works fine.

I'm also running same beta firmware. I tried changing bands but no luck for me. I guess the cell tower I'm connected to supports B3...

Yep, tower is most likely running B3 only.

Maybe Rain could have an option to display available band(b3/b38/41) for the tower in the optimizer.

@cavedog, @jbroo, @Web Or What can you help me?

I have the MR600 v2 through Supersonic. My signal strength is crap, 25%. Connecting my pointing booster antenna it gives me 85% but even with the stronger signal speeds keep dropping low. And I am pointing to the towers up the road at Lanseria Airport. Which are supposed to be high output MTN towers. The firmware version is still 00001. First version. No updates of the firmware on the ZA tplink site. But if I switch to the global en tplink. They already have 3 upgraded firmware versions available. Typically ZA is always lagging behind.

I have read that the global firmwares are compatible with the ZA version of the MR600 v2 that I have, but it might interfere with my ISP settings and there is no update for me to be sure that it won't affect it. Has anyone given it a try? I am scared of voiding my warranty especially since I have only had if for a month. Check out the link below to see the mentioned available global firmwares.

There is also a v2 beta v2 available released 16 Jan 2022.

Sorry man, but I know nothing about this router. Generally you can load any firmware you want, so find a copy of your current firmware and keep it. Load the new firmware and test. If you're not happy with it, load your original firmware again.

Will give it a try.

JayBase, did you flash your router with the latest (EU) firmware? I'm in the same boat as you and would love to know the outcome...
