Wait and see...
I am not the biggest I-phone fan, would prefer something more free, Like an HTC, but at the price they go for? i-Phone killer my butt! Let's just say Vodascum gives a pay as you go customer the phone for R2400...I could get 3 i-phones for the price of 1 HTC Tytn2...
Other case scenario, I go through Sardie, I can still get 2 phones, and save R1000 that the HTC would have cost.
What I am hoping is that the i-Phone will actually drive down prices. I mean, if Sardie can provide them for us at R3500 unlocked, what won't it do for prices? I mean, you won't get a Tytn 2 for under 5k on BidOrBuy, a HTC Diamond for under 7k...
We will see how the contracts look, and what Vodasham does with the power Steve gave them. Remember, Vodascum still has to obey Steve. If they don't go by his terms and it causes consumer outcry, he can negotiate with MTN or Cell C, or Virgin.
Also, another fact we have to keep in mind, the only reason Vodasham will provide the i-Phone to customers from the other networks is due to the competition commission. If only they are allowed to provide i-Phone to their network MTN and Cell C will surely take it to court. So this way they won't be able to complain that their customers can't get access to the i-Phone. But we will still see what happens in that space.
So as much as I am not a fan of the i-Phone, that much hope I have in it driving down prices so much that even people who can't spend too much on a phone can afford it, and thus provide competition to the other phone manufacturers. The only way to compete with a cult object that (in processing power) is more powerful than you is to go cheaper, or go broke.
At the rate that I hope the i-Phone will be available for even me, i-Phone anti-fan, might get one...
We will see....
