I agree, I'm just saying that if you want to target the REALLY poor areas into playing a sport that requires some decent physical attributes, then you need to tackle poverty so the kids eat properly. It's not just the muscle but the bones as well that are important.

Your average PSL ticket is dirt cheap, like R40, and even then most games are not even half-way full. How much does a rugby ticket cost? If the game is in a small town sometimes you come across people giving away free tickets just so somebody will attend. Only the headline games like Orlando Pirates vs. Chiefs or cup finals manage to fill up stadiums.

Yeah they will be competitive among one another, but will find the going tough against the well funded, well trained and well nourished.

You can take it even further and think about education, if you can't think strategy due to poor education then you are also at a disadvantage. It really does start at grass-roots level.

Jobs need to be created in these areas by entrepreneurs who are educated so the population in the area can earn enough and municipalities in these areas can be established to render services and also schools need to be provided and upgraded and equipped with facilities and good teachers. All of this so the populace can be educated, funded and well fed.

It's a symptom of our economy and the state of the country really. Those of us who are white mostly have these things to some degree that is acceptable. We also create a lot of opportunities for others and whether that is because we have things or because we are different is subject to conversation, since I can't say how I would have been had I grown up in a shack where my father has 6 wives and 23 children, or one wife and 7 children.

Unless there are rugby fields to play on and a passionate father and other blokes to encourage you playing rugby, you are likely to end up playing football on the dirt fields with hand-made ball-like objects or flat, punctured balls - simply because that is what you grow up with. You can watch football on SABC but not rugby.

EDIT: The above applies to any sport really. Cricket as well. It may be a reason why we have many footballers, but not such great footballers since at some point you have to make a decision to follow your dreams and risk failing, getting a job and get stuck in a rut - and with job I mean the kind the uneducated get, get yourself educated through tireless hard work (as some black folk from townships have done) and making a success, or ultimately and unfortunately in many cases, revert to crime.

Calls for a series format shakeup come in the wake of a reduction in TV viewership and Newlands being the only local venue to attract more than 50% capacity

The Nelson Mandela Stadium in the Bay was only 15% full during Super Rugby matches, with an average of 6 914 spectators tallied per match.

Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein was only 17% full, with an average spectator attendance of 7 780.

Cape Town’s Newlands Stadium was the only local venue that was more than 50% full (52%, with an average spectator tally of 26 992).

Newlands is followed by Kings Park (45%, 23 591), Loftus Versfeld (35%, 17 921) and Ellis Park (32%, 19 808), although the capacity of 62 567 at Ellis Park is higher than that of the other stadiums.

Yet the sports minister continually calls for private and model c schools to introduce football. The PSL has white owners and coaches, most seasons around 50% far ahead of national demographics. Some schools actively discourage football though.

As for this cricket quota, I'm against a hard limit, but 6 non-white players as a target isn't crazy. Our ODI team has taken to the field like that before, and the sky didn't fall.

Yeah, the difference is we do have quality players of colour, I would not mind if the entire team was black as long as they deserved to be there. This is not what its about, its about FORCING a policy down on players based on their colour and not their performance.
