Hi there, just looking to see which way people are leaning with the new generation of consoles coming out.
I've pretty much had the wrong console for the last two generations.... PS3 and XBox One.

OP there is no such thing as the wrong console - you get the one you like and that's it.
There won't be a wrong choice between playstation or XBox as well. if you're lucky enough to be able to afford either you've already won.

If exclusives are left out in the here and now the Xbox Series X wins out every time on every front.

“Much faster load times” is an undemonstrated fallacy on the VapourStation 5 at present where the XSX has already shows massive improvements to “old” games not even optimised for it.

You are talking about the difference between an M3 and C63 AMG here, not an M3 vs a Toaster the way you make it sound.

There’s also a bit more to load times than strictly SSD, design also forms a deep part of it.

About 10 or so months ago, Sony released some Spiderman loading time comparisons.

Of course, Xbox Series X also has an SSD, although it is half the speed of Sony's, with compression it is still faster than the fastest PCIe 3.0 SSD you'll find in a PC.

Multiplatform titles will usually be developed for the lowest common denominator, so at best you'll see less texture pop-in on the PS5 compared to the XBox Series X.
On the exclusives is really where you'll see what the PS5's SSD can do.

When you're a kid, the wrong console is the one none of your friends have. It doesn't matter if your games look better, if they all play on Console A while you have B, you are going to have a worse experience.

I’m willing to bet it will be hardly perceivable and in pure paper value not even a 5% difference at worst...it at all.

Exclusives will be where each console will ultimately triumph for its (minor) strengths and weaknesses as has always been the case.

One thing will remain forever true though...PSN is garbage and Xbox Live will remain the superior multiplayer platform if that’s your thing. More so if you are in South Africa where Sony couldn’t care less about having you as a customer.

Not necessarily. With consoles being about 7-8 years per generation, kids are only kids for one or two generations before they grow up and it starts to matter less.
I think the cheaper one will win, at least initially. Especially considering the way the Rand tanked, asking parents to spend close to R10k for a console will make price a big factor.

Erm I own a PlayStation and have owned multiple so I certainly do like them.

Between the two Microsoft supports local much better.

I have an Xbox one X. Don't care to use it. I have a very decent PC; don't care to use Steam sales. Why? As you say, we've been down this road before. Hundreds of games available to one does not mean you can play them all.

Quality over quantity dude.

MS may not "care" about you, but their strategy since Phil Spencer took over is much more customer-centric than that of Sony.
Cross play, backwards compatibility, Game Pass, and I'm sure there are a couple of things I'm missing.
Edit: Buy once, play on Xbox and PC is another nice feature.

Then CDPR said that if you Cyberpunk on Xbox One, you will get a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X when it releases.
Sony may allow the same, but for now we don't know.

What I care most about is, is there a platform that provides a better multiplayer experience for me in South Africa? When I got the Xbox One quite early on, you had to jump through hoops to be matched with other South Africans. Whilst it was not the case with Playstation.

All Microsoft Studios titles will be coming to PC as well yes.

They’ll also be available on Game Pass for PC at launch.

Correction there, they aren’t forcing third party developers to do anything.

They have however implored them to follow their own stance and a few have announced that they will do so.

Likely the rest will fold under peer pressure though.
