Posting this from my new 700 Mhz Speed Demon with 128 Mb RAM!

This little distro is amazing!

A freind gave me this old computer to fix for them cos they couldn't get on the internet. Well they ordered a 2 year ADSL contract from Telkom cos someone gave them this old computer. problem was it had Windows 95 on it.

I slapped a network card in for them and download Puppy Linux! It runs great even from the CD... but I have it set up on the hard drive now.

This OS is as snappy as a new Windows 7 installation on a Quad Core!

And best of all... it's free! ;)

Get the ISO and burn to CD
Prepare the hard drive (erase it)
Boot into Puppy Linux
Go back to the Puppy Linux home page and follow the install instruction from there.

The ISO is just over 100 mb

I wasn't paying attention and bought 3GB of extra bandwidth - I only wanted 1GB! Why, oh, why does my ISP make 3GB the default option?

Anyway, I'm downloading Puppy Linux right now... I have 3 old PCs in the garage, an old monitor, keyboard and a com port mouse. At least one of them still works, and I think it has Windows 98 on it - not sure what cpu, though.

Before I face the dust, cobwebs and spiders, I'll try it in a VM first.

Wow! I'm impressed. Widgets on the desktop and all! I had to install hpijs, but my printer even works. For some reason, I'm having problems with Xorg, but Xvesa works just fine (in VirtualBox).... it's not as if I'm planning to run Compiz or anything. Yay! I have a new toy....

Ja, it really is nice. Maybe you can try a different graphics card?

I downloaded it and was very impressed - user friendly as well.
I put it onto an old 500 Mbyte usb flash stick and that works well.
even though it resides in memory, you can see all the contents of the other drives.
