Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Hi
Can get a mavic pro for about 2k more than the spark flymore combo (both new)
It’s just for occasional use and to fool around a bit
I’m no dronie as you can tell
Which would be the better buy?

If you are getting the pro without the controller, then you will also be quite restricted with the distance you can fly it since it will be limited to wifi distance or around 30m. I would much rather have the spark with the controller than the mavic without it.

Thanks, leaning towards the spark.
Does the mavic have the same gesture controls?
Think it's really cool.
Get the Mavic! It's way better and has gesture controls with an update. And it can handle the wind better.

Spark, I'd say, but it depends what type of footage you want. Spark has JPEG and 1080p while the Mavic has RAW stills and 4K.
After seeing the Mavic in the flesh my conclusion is it's too big for my requirements. So I took your&others advice and got a Spark bundle with a third battery. Also had to get an iOS device (7 Plus) to fly the thing. First flights were this past Saturday. I like it, though ideally would have wanted something even smaller. Cam isn't too shabby, and perfectly fine for amateur video. Lekker stuff. Thanks.

Also received my Spark Fly More birthday present this morning, with a third battery. Also thought that the Mavic was too big/noisy.

First Impressions :

1) Noisier than expected / desired.

2) Size is fine, but no bigger.

3) Using my old One Plus One to fly, but the phone is too big. The software won't run on my Ipod Touch 5th Gen. Need another solution. iPod Touches also don't have built-in GPS, of of those Apple idiosyncracies (same with wifi iPad).

4) Easy to fly

5) Battery life quite poor, I hope that it improves as the batteries get conditioned.

6) So far cam is fine, but we will see later.

Can you use the Mavic without a controller? Also I think the distance without the RC is 200m, which is more than enough for some people.

There won't be Sport mode iirc.

No probs, enjoy. Remember if you're looking for cinematic footage, get some filters to keep your shutter speed down.

1. Dunno, it's noisy close up but so far it's been one of the quietest drones I've heard.

2. It's tiny. I'm in Thailand and I've got my entire Spark bag in the bottom of a smallish size camera bag.

5 It's probably just the size. I don't think you're going to see much improvement tbh.

6 Hope they update it to improve the camera quality a bit. Not 100% convinced yet.

Yeah. Saw that an hour ago. :( Am selling the Spark and getting the Mavic Air! :) They're here week of 5 Feb.

Bad research on my part. I see there are previews posted over the past few weeks. Ah well. Pay the same school fees over and over.

Was about to buy
Couldn’t decide between the mavic pro and the spark
This is coming just in time....
Thanks guys

I might get rid of my Sparks and get this one. Anyone think they know the RRP?

Was also thinking of getting the Spark but read about the new launch so definitely getting the Mavic Air

Hmm, I will wait and get the Air on Amazon in a few month time.

In the meantime I will try to learn how to fly properly on the Spark, it probably won't survive, I'm not a FPS expert.

I’m also interested in the mavic air

Has anyone bought directly from DJI website and shipped to SA?
If so, what’s the experience in comparison to purchasing locally?

Maybe worth doing
Don’t think dji ship to SA, so will have to use a freight forwarding service

The mavic air flymore combo is 20k here

It’s 999usd, so roughly 12k
Shipping with DHL express 1,5k (guesstimate)
Customs and clearance - dunno ?2k

My only concern would be the warranty- I’m not sure if the warranty is held by dji - international warranty or by the local distributor.

Suppose we fix etc. would be able to do repairs locally.

Any ideas
