Quadcopter/Drone Thread

6km with a Mavic ....

Yikes that's impressive, and with 20% battery remaining. The technology packed into these little aircrafts is nothing short of ingenuity. Makes the karma look like a Neanderthal of the sky.

There is a P4 that did 8km... Its range is rated lower than the Mavic, right? Sure the Mavic can go further, in the right conditions.

Inaugural flight this evening.

Very impressed with the device. So easy to fly and stable in some decent CT wind. Camera quality far better than I expected.

What are your thoughts on the DJI Mavic Pro? I'm thinking about getting one of these instead.

Are they worth getting over say the Phantom 3 Advance/Pro?

I would say yes, but you are going to wait. About 2 months. Limited supply world wide. Back to the drone itself. I have watched so many videos / tutorials on it. Been following all the good & bad threads on the DJI forum. The tracking feature is a bit finicky and isnt 100% right yet (it tends to lose the object its following) But overall the full package it offers is very good.

Thanks, that's all I needed to know. I don't care much for tracking since I probably wouldn't use it. On the Takealot website they state that it will be shipped on 22 December. I haven't bought from them yet (only Kalahari), so I'm a bit weary of buying something so expensive from them.

Unless Takealot have pre-ordered stock, I wouldnt think you will get one this year.... My order via Droneworld.co.za was done 17/10 and They are still waiting for thier pr-order stock to come in. When I last mailed them, they had only received 4 drones from DJI.

if I decided to buy a cheap drone under R1000, with Camera and smartphone app,

what would be the best pick?

was looking at this one:

blaupunkt drone MQUAD 1000 for R700

worth anything?, or are all of the cheap toy ones pretty much scrap compared to a kit quality drone you build yourself?

alos , not sure how easy this might be to fly, I say a DJI phantom, and it looks a bit tricky to fly when there is some wind.....

No GPS, no sensors, no nothing... It's actually more difficult to fly these little drones, as you constantly have to adjust altitude by giving more and less throttle.

Not worth it, just about useless toys/scrap.

Mavic pro looks so good. I wanted one (and would still love one...) BUT:

- I doubt you are going to see one until late Jan or Feb. I got seriously tired of waiting. They still haven't supplied the original pre-orders and the list has grown somewhat. Delay delay delay. I have seen the estimated date pushed back several times. No stock anywhere even overseas.

- For me blowing R20k+ for an unknown hobby was going to be a bit rough. Got the cash but would be hard to justify and commit.

- There seem to be some bugs but this wouldn't stop me. I'm sure software updates will resolve asap.

but yeah the ultimate portability and great camera looks like a real winner.

For me though R11k for the P3a made sense as it had everything I needed (very good camera, long range, vision system) for just over half the price.

^^Range??
It's a micro drone that fits in the palm of your hand. More than 5m and you won't see it lol. You fly it around the house for fun.

Inspire 2 - Intro

Inspire 2 is flipping amazing, but YOH $$$$$ .... I suppose if you are seriously into the commercial side and make money off of it then its ok. I'd love to capex my drone!

I don't mind waiting for one of these since I'm not in a big hurry to get one.

Yes I'm sure a software update will be able to fix the current issues. One of the reasons I like it is because it's so compact and it's perfect for someone like me who uses a motorcycle as their means of transport.

I would also buy a Phantom 3 Advance if I can get it that price, unfortunately I live nowhere close to any good suppliers so I have to buy online.
