Dusted off the 'ol drone again. Sunset on the one side, storm brewing on the other side.

Caught a storm about 2 weeks ago, towards Harties was around 19:00ish
had to go high iso due to bad light.
Tried to get some shots of the lightning, and by the time I was flying back it was
very dark. First time flying in these dark conditions.

Anyone know if the Pretoria Botanical gardens allow drones? I cant find any info saying they dont.

You need explicit permission from the property owner to fly over their property. You will also probably fall foul of the rules governing flight within 50m of a person or group of persons.

please let us know how it flies after you stretch its wings
It flies very well! It is very responsive and stable. I am impressed. I just struggle with keeping a stable connection. The controller is the CE version so it's wifi has been nerfed quite a bit, but even so I keep dropping signal from less than 50m. I have only gone to one spot near my house that falls within a fly zone and there is a big Vodacom tower close by, so I suspect that plays a role. There are some Tshwane wifi antennas in the area so that also might be the answer.
I'll sadly only have my drone in an unpopulated area some time next year as I'm about to go on an overseas trip.

Ask to talk to a manager at the location- unfortunately I don't think you'll get permission....

You're right on the boarder of the Waterkloof and Wonderboom CTR's as well (Controlled Airspace from GND to A075) never mind the 50m rule

Appreciate the update.
Can't wait to get mine. nobody has stock right now and i much prefer to purchase immediately than pre-order.
Enjoy your trip mate.

anyone got that Xiaomi Mini drone?
It's only R500 on the eBucks store - wondering if it's worthwhile getting

Anyone using an iPod to fly their drones? Or have used. Experience?
I fly with mine. The screen is a little bit small, but otherwise works ok. My Samsung Galaxy S6 crashed the other day when I flew with it. There has since been an update to fix the S6 and S7 from crashing, but I don't want to take any chances. I'm planning on buying a Galaxy S10 when I'm in Qatar in two weeks time, but I have read some people experiencing compatibility issues with the DJI app and Android 10. I'm sure that will be resolved easily enough though.

I ended up buying it (because eBucks, so why not).
Does anyone know where I can get spare batteries in SA?

Quick one. So Mavic Air was stolen, lucky insurance will cover. The question is. Should I get the air or the mini. Need to see how much they will cover

Tough call, the mini is [slightly] smaller and has a longer flight time, but you sacrifice 4k video along with speed and range...

I'd probably get another Air considering all the extra batteries I'd have along with the other accessories.

Yeah was super happy with the Air. Not too phased with the speed. What draw me to the mini. Is it smaller and quieter! And longer flight times but will miss the 4K and also the custom controls

Yeah, it's not that much smaller though. 20mm or so IIRC in length. The MAS props made a significant difference in terms of the noise. Unfortunately I took a chunk out of one of the props the other day so I need to order more.

EDIT - Mini: Folded: 140×82×57 mm vs Air: 168×83×49 mm

The Air is also built a fair amount sturdier than the Mini and will probably hold up to a crash better. I also think the range is a bit better on the Air but I have not had the opportunity to test this theory. I think they nerfed the Mini controller rather hard. Or maybe my Pro controller has made me to comfortable. But make no mistake the Mini is great fun. The sound on the Mini also doesn't make me have flashbacks of my Dentist's chair and for me that is a big win.
