R 99 Neotel service

Sounds interesting. But I would avoid it because of the contract and because of their horrible customer service(I have a mate who has to call them every week to get something fixed.)

Also, some of the call center opperators have actually lied to my buddy about the how some of the services, contracts and charges work. Whether they did that out of ignorance of malice I dunno. But that is still not on.

The problem with the 1000 Neotel-to-Neotel minutes is no-one is on the Neotel to call for free.

For the benefit of those Neotel people who allegedly read these forums to gauge customer needs:

So, has there been any word on a Neotel 'voice-free' broadband offering for consumers yet?

Bah.

Yes, but you are not paying for an ADSL line += R150 and this option is still R20 cheaper than a telkom line so your saving R170 a month. Neotel are saying well here is your new telephone service and if you want to surf the net, we will only charge you for the bandwidth and not rip you off for the privilege of being a netizen.

EDIT: But reading this thread again I see how petty a lot you guys are. Get a life. Start comparing Apples with Apples before you make your next post

Read this article on out-of-bundle rates.

Here's a list of price per out-of-bundle MB for various providers:

R2.00 for GPRS/EDGE/3G from MTN/Vodacom/Cell C (without a bundle)
R1.20 for GPRS/EDGE/3G from MTN/Vodacom/Cell C (with > 500MB bundle)
R0.95 for iBurst Wireless
R0.50 for Virgin Mobile EDGE
R0.20 for MWEB ADSL
R0.08 for Neotel

At R82 per GB, this is comparable to the in-bundle rates of most ADSL packages, which is the cheapest form of Internet access at the moment. It is even cheaper than R99 1 GB package offered by MWEB.

This of course doesn't include the difference in monthly subscription, which makes the Neotel offer even better.

hmm. i pay R70 per GB out of bundle on my adsl. I see you listed mweb adsl out of bundle. mweb aint exactly the cheapest option.

I see your point, however, as stated, compare apples with apples, neotel is a "fixed line" alternative, not a cellular alternative, as such, comparing it to 3g or gprs/edge is not in my opinion fair. compare it to Telkoms offerings as it is supposed to be operating in the same market as them.

Then things look a bit different.

High end market neotel is the winner by far, 1k for an uncapped line is pretty good i will admit. pity only 1% of the country (if that) lives within a covered area.

mid market. debateable but im gonna go with neotel again.

low useage/casual useage. not so much neotel. i can get their lite option with 2gb for roughly the same as my adsl with 1gb. adsl is a WAY better option. no disconnects when the phone rings and numerous other reasons.

as far as subscriptions go, yes neotel is cheaper by far there, but I dont HAVE to sign a 24 month contract to get adsl. that alone makes adsl a better option.

With Neotel's per megabyte rates you only pay for what you use, with Telkom even if you only use 2GB, you pay for 3GB. And with Telkom, you pay for the line, you pay for the ADSL service and you pay your ISP. Neotel sounds like a good deal to me, especially for guys that don't use a lot of bandwidth. Personally, I think this is more a nail in iBurst's coffin than Telkoms'.

One of my collegues says he ordered the Premium and that he gets between 40kbps and 80kbps. Then they say that only local bandwidth is guarenteed at 300kbps. He then said he tried a IS speed test with the same result, they came back and said that they guarentee browser speeds, not download speeds. How crazy is that? There is no difference!

Dude was that even an English sentence???? There is just no sense debating with someone that cannot even string a few words together in a way that makes sense. Is it school holidays or what?? What are you even doing here????

Its was a bit difficult to type it out on a mobile phone with the screen size of a postage stamp, but seeing that I'm in front of my PC now, lets debate this topic... seeing that you have a wealth of knowledge on this subject.

Please can you explain to me how a 24 month contract makes perfect sense. I'm sure there are quite a few people on this forum that would love to know how you got to your conclusion!

All I can say is you have to be a tard to not understand it.

How come you have a sudden reluctance to explain the advantages of a 24 month contract, yet you trumpet it as if it's a good choice?

Most of us do not want a contract, we have been burnt before with contracts, and would prefer month-to-month.

Also, in this current financial climate it makes sense not to tie you to something for 24 months.

Yes. Here.

...neotel is a "fixed line" alternative, not a cellular alternative...

No, Neotel is very definitely not a fixed line alternative. Their consumer services run exclusively on CDMA, with no fixed lines in sight. CDMA is pretty much the same technology used by 3G cellphone networks.

...no disconnects when the phone rings and numerous other reasons.

I haven't seen anyone reporting this happening, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

You give the thumbs up for Neotel with their mid/high range offerings, but say that the R299 NeoConnect Lite is better than the R99 option when it comes to the entry level. Surely the R99 option is closer to entry level?

Calling 1GB per month entry level, this works out to R188 for Neotel and R263 for the cheapest ADSL around (R124 Telkom line + R139 NashuaMobile 1GB). It probably still works out cheaper than ADSL with usage higher than this.

I suggest you also get the R99 option for yourself. Then everytime you want to call someone using the free minutes drive to their place drop off the device, drive back home and call them.

Problems solved. :D

Neotel is allegedly licenced as a fixed line alternative. they were supposed to be competition to Telkom. the fact that they went with CDMA is besides the point. they are supposed to be fixed line competition. As such I clasify them with Telkom atm and not with the Cell providers.

WRT to the disconnects, the fact that nobody reports it, does not mean it does not happen. Neotel stated it would happen and I haven't seen anyone reporting that it doesnt in fact happen. If you were sold a laptop and told it doesnt have wireless you would have to be some kind of a special person to complain that it doesnt have wireless. Perhaps the reason nobody has posted that disconnects happen or not is because it is working as advertised?

Yes. R188 is lower than R273, but then I have 1GB on a fixed line with lower latency and no mention of a contract which as I have stated is the deal breaker for me.

Look, Im not getting into an argument with you here. Neotel has made some great inroads, but they have one helluva long way to go before they could even start to consider themselves more customer focused as they stated they would be. As far as I am concerned, they have one or two decent offerings, but they are going to kill themselves with that stupid contract of theirs and also the fact that they seem to have done their market research in elbonia and not south africa.

You seem to be a Neotel Fanboi so lets just leave it at that. mmkay. You believe their hype, I dont and never shall we understand one another and thats the end of this thread for me. good night all.

....and also the fact that they seem to have done their market research in elbonia and not south africa....

:D

ditto...
if they had asked people like me during their research, they'd have had my whole family on Neotel.
but instead I have to tell them to wait...

wait for who u ask?

it used to be wait for Neotel...but I'm not so sure anymore
