Ok guys for those that want to know. Went to the MtN store today got a sim and rica'ed it. Got home, set it up and got some airtime. And followed the instructions to load and then activate the R50 all day internet thingie. After that I put the sim in to my e220 modem 25 min later I got throttled to 100kbs after 150mb was downloaded.

So from about 11am to 9pm I downloaded about 600mb. Mostly program updates.

MTN R50/Gig - Love it!

So I got my MTN SIM at pep :D, RICA'd it, and downloaded just a tad over 1.2GB - not bad for 50 bucks I say!

yeah, it's a bit slower than normal - but if one needs to download a few files sometime, this is DEFINITELY the way to go!

So I just wanna say,
THANK YOU MTN!! I'm Happy that you brought this service to us!

PS: I downloaded a 280MB Zip File as well, that extracted to a whopping 1.8GB of installation files :wtf:
Nanozip has some Mad compression! (took 30 mins to extract though..)

I must agree. This is an excellent service for those who don't have any fixed line connections.
For the average home user, buying 2 GB every 60 days at R389 and then say once a month the R50 bundle gets you 2GB+ data per month at R245 per month. Cheaper than ADSL.
Just be careful with contracts and overbilling though - I think it's safer to do this on prepaid.

I don't see the mobile networks dropping their prices any further unless Teklom drops line rentals (what's the chance) or, of course, LLU comes into play.

My SP is Iburst.. R200.00 month by month account - not a contract - gives 2GB per month accumulating, with free data between midnight and morning. Also very fast and very reliable.. depending on your location. Obviously coverage is problematic out of the urban areas. The modem cost R 2000.00 - but I got mine for free from a buddy who immigrated - lucky me.

Did Anyone notice THIS:

"110MB Bundle"
Data: 110MB
Price: R88

"Uncapped Bundle"
Data: 150MB + Uncapped for 24 hours, @ 128Kbs
Price: R50

the uncapped is half the price, and you can download 10 Times as much Data

Thats wack but if you are only planning on using 110mb a month vs 250MB in a day you will have to go for the R88 one! So its understandable :S

But don't you pay for the time that you are on the cell.. per 30 sec unit if you are using your cell to access the internet? So what you win on the merry-go-round is lost on the round-about.

Well I have tried to load this package to test it out and I have no luck, what MTN has not announced is that its not availible to MTN anytime top up subscribers.. Thanks MTN. Apparently only pay as you go, anytime, and anytime off peak top up subscribers....
So if you have the normal off peak you lose out and if you have anytime top up you lose out.
