Rain 5G packages get 4G fallback

Rain 5G users should experience fewer connection interruptions during load-shedding.

On Thursday, the mobile network operator emailed its 5G customers to inform them that their packages would fall back to its 4G network if 5G connectivity became unavailable.

That's great and all but I to cancel my rain 4G because it goes down during load shedding no backup at all

This is great news. I had Rain 5g for about 2.5 years and it used to fall back to 4g during load shedding. My speeds were great and this enabled me to work from home with no worries. I had to cancel mid last year when I moved as my new temporary address had fibre. I've moved again since and actually need a backup internet connection. I hope I can get similar speeds and a connection as stable as my first address.

Your area. Ours almost no difference.

Had to pull power to my 5G router, to get a working internet connection, during load shedding, tho that was not great, but better than nothing.

During load shedding? They actually do. Perhaps households without backup power are disconnected from the tower.

Yeah, that's what I was asking. Was just curious as to what less contention does.

4 hrs in jhb. twice a day. I would have offed myself already.

This session started at 12.02pm and ended at 4.26pm.

So I don't want to jinx it but my Rain has worked flawlessly since around the 1st week of Jan (during load shedding). We had one 4 hour session since then, where it reverted to 4G towards the end of the session.

Other than that, it's been absolutely outstanding...
