The Table Mountain range in the Cape Peninsula produces a lot of turbulence when the wind comes from the NW. Technically it's called rotor vortex, and is a huge threat to aircraft. The wind speed can vary from gale force, to a prolonged lull. That's one of the ressons that CT International is far away from the CBD.

Sandy and waterlogged soils are also a factor in much of the Cape Flats (below Rosmead Ave). When my parents were growing up in Plumstead the 1930s, there were seasonal wetlands where the Royal Cape Golf Club is in Ottery. Now there is a canal, and it drains into Little Princess Vlei. The water table is very high in the adjacent Youngsfield and Kenilworth Racecourse.

FYI, I posted in the other thread. This one is mostly for winter cold fronts. No rain in Kenilworth, but dark skies with thunder and lightning in the distance. Partly expected by the models, but not clear enough to make a prediction.

Edit: Brief sprinkle of rain, barely wet the ground...
