Rain and storm for Cpt

Also heavy rain overnight in Kenilworth. Just checked gauge downstairs, another 21mm. Added to the 19mm yesterday afternoon, that makes 40mm in under 24 hours!

P.S. Large waterfalls on the eastern slopes of Table Mt!
 
Camping out in Rawsonville and lots of rain from 3pm till now. Wind was violent from about 5am. Interested to know how much rainfall there was here too.

A weak cold-front brushed the SW Cape on Monday evening. Minimal rain was forecast, but the system was definitely real!

No significant rain seems likely in the foreseeable future (7-10 days), with some relatively mild conditions later in the week, as the dominant South Atlantic High returns. It is possible that the weird weather continues, and that we have a delayed start to the winter rainfall season.

Zero rain is predicted for the SW-Cape during the next 7 days, with rather warm offshore berg-wind conditions at times. The next major cold-front is predicted for Sun 12th and Mon 13th, and is likely to bring strong winds, heavy rain, and very cold temperatures.

Hey I'll take a week of that. These sunny days in winter are so damn good, especially when there's no wind like this.
 
Just as well we never switched to winter bedding and packed the fan away.

A lot of the models show an 'average' rainfall, which includes the high mountains around the SW-Cape, as well as the low-lying areas. Orographic effects mean that rainfall over the mountains can easily be 2-3 times that of the lowlands. Localised flooding is likely in places, particularly where drainage has not been maintained (autumn leaves, etc).

This is certainly going to be a prolonged wet event, but no more than a typical severe winter storm. Snow is also forecast at the trailing end of the event (Wed 15th).
