Rain connected to wrong tower

Is there any way to force it to connect it to a closer tower?
Apparently if you leave the router off for about an hour , it will connect to a different tower .
This is what RAIN level 2 support told my friend . (his is working )

I Can't say if it works or not

Can someone please explain to me. The bottom 3 readings are from Vodacom and the top 3 from rain.

From my stoep I can see both towers as they are less than 170m from me and almost right next to each other. I have always been connected to the rain tower.

Then I went to rain's site and lo and behold I'm now connected to the furthest of 6 or 7 towers within 1km from me with a shyteload of flats between us.

How does this happen? I know rain's policy is that "you get what you pay for" but I didn't know their motto is SNAFU

Thanks Werner going to try it now. Ours is connecting to a tower 5km away but we have a tower less than half a kilometer from us.

I found the map in the control panel and thought I could click the tower I wanted to connect too. I also discovered how horribly wrong I was.

I've had rain for about 5 months now. First month was AWESOME ,think i had like 12 mb download and upload. Sadly from the second month it only got slower and slower, i seem to get my best signal from a tower almost 6 km away (7 mb download and 2 mb upload) that i am still very happy with but it never stays there ,it connects me to towers closer to me but leaving me under 1 mb upload and download that nobody pays for. Reading all of these other peoples posts i think its best to move back to telkom since it doesnt look like Rain is going to Help

Good Morning @Brucelee105

May you please provide me with your email address via PM, let’s see what we can do for you

Same with me, this issue has been plaguing me for months now. I have a tower 800m from where where I have direct line of sight, the other tower in my area is over 2KM away with no direct line of sight and it's massively congested. Guess which one I am connected to 24/7?

I don't getting 80-100mb (which is low to some)down and 10-30mb up at all. Those speeds are far beyond what my shitty ADSL gave me, my issue is when I connect to the further tower I have massive latency issues, high jitter etc. I basically cannot play any online game, and my work is also suffering during the day as I work a helpdesk job and I am constantly on my VOIP phone, 99% of my customers complain about "terrible line quality"

All these issues disappear on the off chance I can get a connection to my nearest tower. Gaming, latency, jitter, Voip issues are all gone immediately.

After raising a billion tickets and a lot of back and forth I received an outdoor router which I promptly placed on my stoep (I have no roof access as I am in a complex with tenants above me)

I immediately got over 300 down and 60 up on my very first speed test and was overjoyed to notice that this is because I was connecting to old faithful, the closer tower.

It stayed like this for about a month even during bad weather, I was getting great speeds and next to 0 disconnects or latency issues at all. It like the first couple of months of 5G in 2019, PERFECT. And then without a change from my end it started again. Disconnects, packet loss, latency issues etc.

THE VERY FIRST THING THE RAIN SUPPORT TECH TOLD ME "move your router to a better spot".

This after repeatedly telling him listen bud, this thing has been in 1 spot for over a month its MOUNTED on a bracket and I was connecting to the closer tower without issue and had a GREAT experience even in bad weather. He insisted that I keep on moving the router to a better spot as this will resolve my issues.

After raising a lot of tickets again I got connected to some very helpful people higher up in the chain and I got settings to manually lock my router onto my closer tower. I was very impressed and very thankful for that kind of assistance. I even got followups and all which was great.

Then I started getting complete disconnects after a bout a week and because my router was "locked" to said tower I had to remove the settings to get a connection again. Upon reaching out to Rain again I was told that there is an issue with that site and they are working on it, in the mean time I am connecting to a massively congested tower which is giving me absolutely horrible speeds, jitter etc. Hopefully whatever is wrong with this close tower gets resolved soon.

This constant up and down is severely affecting my job, as mentioned earlier my customers are complaining about bad voice quality on my calls which forces me to load up on Vodacom mobile data on my cell and do my calls like that which is costing me a pretty penny to say the least. I cannot play online games as the latency and packet loss is absurd and it's just a massive ****ing frustration to say the least.

Have a look at some of the screenshots I have attached. That is my experience 24/7.

Also check this one, when I connect to the closer tower, without the router moving an inch

@rain_mobile
Is there a way to prevent me from connecting to a certain Tower?
No matter where I place my router and what I do, I keep getting connected to that Tower which is located 4.18 Km away, where there are at least 10 other Towers before that one.
I used to place my router to a certain spot and connect to a closer Tower but when I do the same thing today it gets me to that further Tower for some reasons...
My speeds are not the best, my ping gets low sometimes when I keep on reconnecting the network in CPE settings, but after sometimes it randomly goes back up...
I just do not understand how Rain works anymore.
It used to be so good at the beginning around April.
I sent an email to customer support but they don't seem to be interested so far.
Please help!

Unless your router supports LTE locking, no. Search on this forum, there is a lot of info.
