RAIN LTE-A: Speedtests

Is anyone running into an issue that they have to reconnect to the tower like once a day? Seems I need to pings time out or go over 1000ms. Once reconnected it runs at 30ms.

Slightly off topic, what type of antenna do I need for the Huawei router and where do I get it in CT? Have an account at Miro

Thanks

I am only getting 8mb down and 6mb up and suspect it might be a poor signal. Most times all 3 lights are on, but right now only one. The transmitter is about 800m from me line of sight

Edit: Miro only have single pole YAGIs for LTE
I am lucky to get 4 Mbsp with Cell C LTE with a ZTE router. They state that we have to have "line of sight" with NO buildings around!

Hi, everyone

I tried Rain today. All I can say it's atrocious. Virgin Mobile is faster than this. I'm am running 4G, I am within in the 4G coverage area. I'm still waiting to receive the APN settings. I never received it, so I had to manually enter the APN settings according to your website. The speed keeping going up and down, up and down.
Absolutely nobody uses or recommends rains 4G

HI @508

I thought rain wasn't telkom? seems I had better on telkom adsl.
Speedtest - 20.87mbps down 1.4mbps up - Silverton Pretoria.

Does anyone know if they are going to do something about the upload?

Guys rain is a hit and miss. Even with 5G. If they messed up the tower or there is bad signal, then rather ditch rain for MTN. Rain doesn't have the equipment needed to actually go into the field and check signal quality and interference. Icasa even gives each operator budget for these weak signal issues. I have faught with them for over a year in 5G (they still send out technitians here) and 7 months for their LTE (here they don't send out anyone, too bad if you have issues). So my advice rather check out MTN.

Did you miss this or...
Rain seems to be ok today, but still not great. Screenshot below is an accurate description of the actual speed I'm getting. I mostly browse abroad, not locally.

Still waiting on Rain representative to contact me.
... you have already sent the pm?

As we know Rain 5G has launched in PMB/Phoenix in KZN. Not sure if something changed for us in the 4G+ only areas but speeds are better. First time seeing this at home  . @cavedog @Gtx Gaming

Device: Huawei H122-373 Rain 5G Locked [bought from a previous 5G owner...]
Band selected: Band 38 - 2600Mhz 20Mhz
Other Bands: Band 3 - 1800Mhz tops out at 60 - 70Mbps with upto 20Mbps uploads.

Edit: Single connection speedtest. 108/4 https://www.speedtest.net/result/12359059945

Probably every who hogged the network is now on 5G.
I think things will further improve as more people are going onto fibre.

Hi all, so I just wanted to share, after fighting with Rain for over 6 months, I decided to ditch them and rather go for MTN, for R779 I get uncapped, and much much better speeds on LTE. Also better ping times, so now 3 people can play COD. Even on their 5G premium package with LOS of the tower, still got rubber banding and ping spikes. MTN just provides a better connection. If you have any issues with RAIN LTE, I suggest you drop them and see if you can do MTN

This is MTN LTE in the same area where I barely got 2Mbps during the day download, and if lucky over weekends 9Mbps.
This is faster that the speeds we got on 5G premium in Pretoria previously. Much better ping. I am done with Rain.

Lol are you really sure youre done with rain this time? The way you keep coming back to this thread about how much youre done is worrying.

Nah you are right, I just need to get them fined for causing interference then I can be done :p

Just had a call from a friend saying they took their Rain 5G router on holiday with them and it doesn't work since there is no 5G tower in the area. Another family member has taken their old Huawei B315 with a 4G sim on holiday to the same resort with them and it works lekker. Is there really no way to get the 5G router routing through the 4G tower nearby?

Nope, no 4G fallback on the 5G sims
