Rain Mobile Feedback Thread

Good enough speeds.

My 2mbps wisp backup is more reliable.

What's regarded as a decent average speed on Rain in Durban? My 4mbps ADSL isn't flattering either.

We have reached a point where Rain in the metros have started to slow down a lot because at R250 it's a steal for unlimited data so you get people torrenting, downloading, streaming the whole day and Rain has very limited 4G spectrum in fact they they have the lowest compared to MTN and Vodacom but they do have lot's they can use for 5G hence the speeds on 5G.

If you are looking at getting 4G then it's best you get a combo of say MTN Fixed LTE or Telkom Fixed LTE with a Rain R250 uncapped. This combo will in most cases be better than 4Mbps ADSL.

So I received a PM from rain on friday for my email address so they can investigate.
I had already purchased a new device by that time, and it seems like rain is more stable in a dedicated mobile wifi device. Everything worked well, up until 6PM Friday evening when everything stopped.
Didn't attempt to use it further that evening, and I had many gigs left to be used in the peak period on my account limit, so it is not that.

So after my holiday the rain will become a backup sim only.

Felt so good to cancel my rain uncapped today - rain confirmed they are aware of the issues but was told it will only be resolved with new towers being put up. It was good while it lasted!

Yay! More capacity for us! :p

This is me now:

Rain 5G is like the complete opposite. Pages load as fast as fibre does. Downloads are so fast. Gaming is so stable. Hard to believe it's the same network.

Yes just switch everything off then when you need to use it again switch is back on. As for the uncapped part not sure if they allow you to switch it on and it is active immediately with pro rata billing or it will only be active from the 1st of the following month but I did see they made it like a switch that can be switched on and off at any time so believe the billing will be the same.
Just got back from 3 months in the US and it activates immediately. Just disappointed at how piss poor my speeds are now after 5G launched...

Completely dead here in Durban, router unable to connect.
Tried the usual, changing bands, restarting router etc.

Believe it or not, this is 4G.. has anyone done a speedtest on rain where upload speeds burst to an insane speed for just a split second before Rain's bandwidth management kicks in? Or would this be something else Screenshot_2019-12-10-00-24-59-888_com.miui.gallery.jpeg

Highly doubt you would be able to get this type of upload speed on 4G, pretty sure it's a bug in speedtest itself.

Thought the same thing. First time I saw it and only happens on rain tho. But the possibility of that speed is unlikely

Do you think we will ever reach this point with 5G?

Had no rain signal once stage 6 kicked in.

OTOH Unexpected rain reception on Robben island, managed 0.8mbps! Rain was quite good in cape town last week.

is rain mobile limiting the speeds? I know I am basically next to the tower I used to get 100mps on fixed lte at this location. Looking at upload speeds, my download should be quite a bit more considering how close I am to the tower.

Although the support people have been ignoring the complaints about the shocking service and speeds for months now, they have an easy way out with load shedding being the excuse for everything.

This is a bug on the speedtest app. I've had this happen many times on various networks and in different countries too.

Ping: 66ms
Download: 0.13Mbps
Upload: 0.62Mbps

Sadly I cannot even blame this on loadshedding as it has been like this from midyear.
