Well, you can always pop the sim in your phone and download an app called "Cellidfinder" and determine it that way. I don't know how accurate it is, but seems to work well enough. Don't mind the low rating on the Play store (in my case) as it had a bug that was resolved. There are probably other better apps out there, but this one worked for me

Or i get "No matches found" error

I found similar, but using MNC >> 38 gave ma a result. My tower is visible from my kitchen window and was there since I moved into the area. Still want to check if this might not be a tower shared with Vodacom.

Rain access in Parys seems to be working for me, even though rain web chat denied them having coverage here

Querying the Cell-ID on UnwiredLabs

Returns Gaborne, Botswana

Changing lac to 27 returns Fordsburg, Johannesburg
an then querying with lac from 1 to 100, the following returns values:
lac=5: Gabarone
lac=7: Gabarone
lac=100: Gabarone

neither Gabarone nor Fordsburg is feasible... Seems like either

• UnwiredLabs have wonky location data;
• or rain is expanding and re-purposing cell-ids;
• or I have not found the correct lac to use?

here is a better way using the updated map. Look for the lines or striations in the blue coverage - trace these back until they intersect and there you should have a cell tower.

I might have found a way to locate the Rain tower that you are connected to if you are wondering where to point your external antenna.

PM me your Cell ID, and I will reply with the tower location.

It can be found under Settings >> System >> Device Information.

Look next to 'CELL_ID:'
