KFC started using certain US imported portions in May last year.
The breast meat (Kernel Burgers) and strips still come from Rainbow.

You will find them mostly in the black trade butcheries where they are left in their packaging that clearly indicates its produced in Brazil , but mostly the retailers defrost the product and repack it into their own packaging so most consumers dont actually know its imported.
 
I have looked and looked for this so-called dumped international chicken. I only ever find chicken that says product of south africa. I feel cheated.

Yea, Screw those employees, I mean, what does exchange rate and higher living wage have to do with it anyway. They been living it up on our money :mad:
 
The biggest problem with local chicken is still the fact that fill it to the brim with salt water that by the time you cook it its 1/3rd its original size, imported chicken is not much better because its frozen for months before it gets here.

We need better food standards or a governing body that can actually do something to ensure food safety.

But lets be honest, our meat industry has gone down the drain like everything els, lamb, beef and pork all arent what they use to be thanks to supermarket cuts.

Nea, they too can adapt and survive. Those employees must start farming their own chickens and sell them. We have a small breeder just down the road from our plot. Boekenhoutkloof or some other. They seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. Why would they be growing from strength to strength but the bigger corporations like Rainbow is folding?

Come guys, really? Don't be so naïve...
 
You can't necessarily trust that it's really from the country that's listed on the product either. Don't know to what extent it happens with chicken, but it's quite common that large overseas food distributors bulk import product from some other country and repackage it under their brand before re-exporting it. This is why Holland is something like the world's third largest agricultural exporter on paper - but they're not actually producing the goods there, they buy product on global markets and partially process or re-package for export. Not a nice thought that you could be eating meat that's been around for years in a container freezer bouncing between continents.
 
Please someone in Benoni tell me where to get this overseas chicken so I can compare quality for myself.
