Ramaphosa explains 'Boer' comment

BTW, the term "boer" was used in the Apartheid era when referring to members of the SAP or SADF

No it wasn't...it was used by people of colour only to indicate a difference, i.e. as a synonym for 'white south african'...

Can anyone clear this up for me?

If I am white, I cant say black/darky/k****/n1gg4/etc then I am racist.

If I am black, I can say boer/soutie/whitey/<insert derogatory word here> then its ok and I will get away with it, (even if I am a public figure)?

20 yrs later people still struggle with definitions and intent of usage.

The word 'k****r' has always been associated with discrimination, therefore it was and is probably still racist...ditto 'coloured' in the apartheid era.

In case it is hard to grasp here are some simple examples:

"Hey, k****r, what are you doing walking through this area...don't you know it is white only"....
"sorry baas, there are no buses"....
"The buses are not for 'k****rs' ...run faster"
"I was s**t scared when that boer told me to f*k off...I hope the ANC rule one day"....

In the above...'whitey' is discriminating against 'darkie' and the usage of 'k****r' is racist and discrimatory. Darkie, when relating experience, is referring to 'whitey'...he has no means of discrination because he has no power at all.

cheers

''coloured'...oh..'Cape Coloured', code 01 2, not "other coloured' they are from the 'baai' (nice guys) and 'plaas jaapies' (simpletons)

ps 'k****r' is filtered and 'coloured' and 'boer' not, so I guess MyBB agrees

"In my conversation with a Seshego resident, I warned of the danger of the country going backwards, and used a term that has commonly been used by black South Africans to refer to the erstwhile apartheid regime," he said in a statement.

"It is a term that continues to be understood in that way."

So then why get upset with anyone when "K word" is thrown around Cyril?
Would the defence of "used a term that has commonly been used by South Africans to refer to the erstwhile freedom fighters", be acceptable then?

What a douchebag.
Promoting such ****, admitting to it and then not clearing up anything and throwing a tagline of "South Africans should work together" out as his lifeline. GTFO!
These tendepreneurs, CEO's, want to play politics again idiots are annoying!

I hope that Johanna Phala and the rest of the disgruntled masses out there, will vote for the opposition - not essentially DA - but anything that would defragment the stranglehold that the majority has over us all.
Don't NOT go and vote!

In the words of Trevor Noah, "You must vote for change!"

About a century ago Afrikaaners made a song about De Larey. What did the word boer mean then?
About Ramaphosa, well i always tell people that Zuma and Malema are just a reflection of ANC since Mbeki and Mandela.

Boer can mean just that....a person that labours on his farm to feed himself and others. ...... but depending on who uses the word, it can become a word used to attack white people. I think we all know when he said "Boer" he did not mean someone that strives to produce food for the country.

AFAIK Afrikaners use that word for English speaking whites. Never heard someone else use it

Well personally I hate it when colored or black ppl call me "boer" just because I'm Afrikaans white. Unlike popular belief, not all white ppl have family members with farms.

Here I thought the Brits fought against farmers. :o

In the end though, if he meant it to be a farmer or an Afrikaner the sentiment remains the same.
What msg would he be conveying by referring to farmers?
The same damn msg.

Very true ... yes.

I was merely trying to convey that "Boer" does not automatically have a negative connotation.....but in this case it is pretty clear what was meant.

I fully understand what you were saying.
It's just become quite apparent that the word boer is only used nowadays to convey some form of apartheid motive.
Which in reality is just a joke.

Which is why I don't understand how he can think the country is so stupid as to not understand his meaning.
He must think that the entire population is made up of brainless sheep.

Apartheid is to blame for the vilification of the word boer, fair statement?

bs-o-meter just went beserk.

And is apartheid not to blame for the vilification of the k-word as well?

So what's your point, apart from the fact that the race card is mightier than the logic card? Why don't you just admit it: you and your sidekick STS, will ALWAYS see any critisism against black people as racist, no matter what.

You actually understood what he said? Please explain it to me. I think I must be stupid then. :(

Basically it's okay to use derogatory terms and hence have a prejudiced attitude if you don't actually have the power to discriminate.

"enlightened" minds have a very hard time accepting a black person can be inherently racist. Black victimhood is pretty much entrenched in their psyche. If a black person were to exhibit behavior that may be interpreted as racist like Cyril has done it must be reactionary to some injustice perpetrated by whites in the first place. As a black man he can't simply have this unjustified prejudiced attitude. That is solely the preserve of the white man.

Hence why we see claims like "Apartheid is to blame for the vilification of the word boere" and in Ozzie Cappie's example we only see the use of the term "boere" AFTER he has been on the receiving end of racial abuse and discrimination from a white man.

In a nutshell. When a black man spews racial BS it's an understandable reactionary attitude to an injustice committed against them by the white man. When a white man spews racial BS it's because he is an inherently evil nasty little bastard.

Of course for a laugh you can spin the warped logic around and claim no whites can't be inherently racist and apartheid was just reactionary to some injustice committed against white people by the natives...

How about instead of being a useless cry-baby you address the points without resorting to personal insults?

You and I agree that he is an idiot and shouldn't be a politician. Agree? Then what is the problem?

We disagree on it being intentionally racist. you're crying over the word "boer", I'm crying over the fact he used fear-mongering to persuade a woman to vote for the ANC.

It's similar to saying "that baboon must be removed from office" and everyone gets hung up on the word baboon rather than the git who is acting like a baboon.

I'm surprised nobody has called me an ANC supporter yet :p
