Ramaphosa suspends Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane

Ok. And if he suspended her just before the Dollar Heist came out? Wouldn't the same suspicions arise then?
That would also be suspicious. Both you are presenting a false dichotomy. Those aren't the only two options that were available.

Certainly way before Fraser laid a complaint. Let's say 3 months ago, creating sufficient distance between the suspension and the court case against him.
The problem is he had to wait until Mkhwebane told him why he shouldn't suspend her? I think the deadline was 26 May? So three weeks ago?

And let's say he did that without waiting for Mkh's response three months ago? Wouldn't there still be an outcry that he's being sus and following an agenda?

The problem still is that Rama had to follow protocol before finally suspending her. And unluckily for him, he suspended her with a scandal hanging over his head (time wasn't on his side).

Regardless if he suspended her around the time of the Dollar Heist or long before, someone would've complained/been suspicious, and someone would've accused Rama of having an agenda.

The PP would've been suspended regardless, scandal or not.

P.S It's also possible that RET caught wind of the PP's suspension to be imminent, hence the leak and ensuing scandal.

Also, like @Priapus said, sure Mkhwebane is now suspended but it doesn't mean the investigation disappears. Now it's the office and acting PP (so most likely the Deputy PP)'s job to investigate.

There would always be someone finding something wrong, simple fact is that there is a clear trail of processes that leads to Mkhwebane’s suspension, now if Ramaphosa did nothing after Parliament informed him of the Impeachment process and suddenly woke up when Fraser opened a case against him and just suspended Mkhwebane then there would be a good reason to suspect something untoward.

I think some people are just slaves to conspiracy theories.

To me it almost look like people are implying Mkhwebane was the one who was going to run a thorough investigation of the Heist scandal and the deputy cannot do a proper job.

The timing is unfortunate from a political point of view. The point though is that she had to be suspended and it is quite possible that CR's were not all that innocent either. If he let her start on the investigation she would have been harder to dislodge so better to get her out of the way so the investigation can start without her biased taint. CR has probably violated some ethical provision and mkhwebane would have made some ridiculous recommendation that he be removed which would make things worse. Now a new person might not be as legally stupid as the PP herself. The PP doesn't carry out the investigation or even compile the report. Her job is being the expert in law and we know this one is far from being an expert at anything given her incompetent interpretations of the past.

Agreed.

She should never have gotten the position but seeing as that's the only significant thing she's ever won......

I just find it extremely strange that he "could not" have removed her before. Funny how fast he did this when she announced she started a new investigation and sent him a list of 31 questions he needed to answer.... That being said, she never was fit for this job. Cyril knew it and failed to act against her while she continued showing her incompetence and lack of knowledge and education in terms of the law.

I would rather let a incompetent PP investigate me than a competent one, can make more mistakes on the way.

I am sure the next PP will investigate the allegations anyway

Why Carl is still not expelled from the ANC is a mystery, guy is literally an opposition within the party, Juju was expelled for much less that what Carl is getting away with.
It's because of the lack of unity in the party. And the willingness of the ruling slate to bend over for the RET. The likes of Ace were doing worse in terms of undermining the ANC and he did that while sitting in office as SG. Others are doing worse and still retain their membership. It presumably keeps them united. Not sure of the logic but there you have it.
