*READ FIRST* iBurst Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

Was there a problem with emails last night? Kept getting a time-out on sending. Just switched to Thunderbird and I think all my settings are correct but I can only receive, not send for some reason.

Our holiday was put off for one day due to something popping up and "speed" has been a joke the whole day.
Did tests every hour on the hour and the best I saw was 0.29Mbps.........all with 100% signal.

Now tell us all again that the problem lies with our PCs and that we have to pay for a techie to come to our houses when the problem clearly lies with iBurst. Come on iBurst, see how many people are moaning about the lack of speed countrywide on this forum, on iBurst's FB page etc. It is not isolated incedents or one area, it is countrywide.

There are a few (very very few) who have decent speeds, but this is becoming a serious pain in the rear.

Like I mentioned before, in 2 weeks time when we are back from holiday, the decision will be finally made - decent speed = iBurst customer, slow speed = bye bye iBurst.

It took 4 reloads before I could see the whole image of your speedtest result.

And this is what the speed currently looks like from my side.

Will def. be giving my notice at the end of the month.

Wow, speed has made a jump:

Some of you may remember, this is what it used to be like (day or night, rain or shine):

Eish........

Its actually depressing to know that my service is slower than 98% of ZA

99% of ZA sits in a very narrow band of speed...

Still doesn't say much that I have to multiply my speed by 9400% to get from the bottom 2% to the top 1%. Also not relevant comparing to speeds that are impossible from an iBurst user's perspective.

Please PM me the procedure to give notice to iBurst. (I'm on a month-to-month contract)

Still does not explain why speeds went from 2+Mbps regularly during the day to less than dialup speed when nothing has changed on my PC, modem in the same place etc........
DITTO!

I'm in Pretoria in the Roseville area. During day time I used to download at an average of 40KB/s and over 100KB/s between 1am and 5am (with the little USB modem and my PC). Now I consider myself lucky if I get anything more than 20KB/s at night. Daytime is just a nightmare. Pages stop loading even before something shows on the monitor/web page and the 'Refresh' button is working overtime. Forget about trying to download something... What's happening?

My contract has expired the 14th so I'm seriously looking for alternatives to iBurst. I love their deals (read: price for what you get) and never had any reason to complain but the current speeds is really a deal breaker.

Seems I spoke too soon:

And I can add that this was with TWO external antennas connected to the 2Mbps modem, not a single antenna and a splitter.
Single external and a splitter results are the same as with two antennas.

External antennas removed and get this speed:

I don't want to sound nasty here, but this is getting seriously pathetic now......
How long must we moan and complain? Will something ever be done about this speed issue that is is happening countrywide for months now?

Your problems seems similar to my experience. At least I've gotten to the root of my problem now. Which is that my base station is congested, and the only thing that can be done is to get more base stations installed in the area which takes 3+ months. Seems like everyone decided to get iBurst when the packages became cheaper.

iBurst sent a technician to my house, whom replaced my external omni antenna with a directional panel antenna. This was installed on the roof, from where we could see the base station with the eye (clear LOS). The technician even commented that I've got the 3rd best signal strength he has ever seen. But yet I still get the same speed results you get.

I even had to argue with the technician. He said I should get the 2mb modem to get double the speed. So I told him its to expensive, so he tried to convince me to take a new 24 month contract to get the thing. Then we went into the argument that if there is currently congestion and no spare bandwidth to such a degree that I can only get 0.3mbps on my 1mb modem, why would a 2mb modem now get double the bandwidth. But anyways.

At the moment I'm having to resort to alternative internet during the day, since the iBurst connection is not usable.

Unfortunately I cannot wait 3+ months for new base stations that "might" fix the problem. So I'll rather grab the 8ta deal whilst it is still on.
