*READ FIRST* iBurst Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

I see that their service is STILL broken! Youtube videos don't event pretend to want to play and of course general browsing is slow as *****.

I honestly don't know how this company has managed to stay afloat for so long.

iBurst issues (yes, yes I know - more issues)

So I finally replaced the flat panel antenna I got from iBurst with a Yagi antenna (1710-1880Hz 13 dBi from Miro) and lo and behold, the signal improved significantly (from a paltry average of 0.12 Mb/s to an reasonable average of 0.41 Mb/s).

Be that as it may, the signal strength may be there, but the latency, especially international is horrific to say the least. G-mail is almost unusable, the wife is unable to use Facebook as the site refuses to resolve and the international news and business sites that I use are just as unusable.

WTF is the problem iBurst?

On Saturday my Iburst disconnected and when I connected again I noticed my speeds were terrible and my signal strength jumps between 60-70%. I have got an external antenna and me signal is usually 100% always. I am in Brackenfell WC so I went to the iburst website and it says the Kraaifontein Tower is down. Does anyone know whats going on, I mailed iburst but no reply from them. I have climbed on my roof to lift my antenna to receive signal from Kuilsriver. It is now a little better but still sucks. I get 20-30kb/s download and my upload is about 20kb/s max. It is also very inconsistent.

We are hoping the Kraaifontein base station will be resolved this afternoon at 16:00

Right, posting this here because this is such a monumental travesty that absolutely needs addressing, it can't just be left to sit and be ignored in the speed test thread. So, iBurst, HOW can it be possible to be *literally* across the road (seriously, a body could throw a ball from here to the tower) from a tower, with a two meg modem and STILL get numbers like this?!??! In case this needs clarity: yes, I really DO want this addressed, if you please.

Radiation going over your head? What is your signal strength like?

I'm so glad you asked, thank you for that. ;) Herewith data captured within the last ten minutes:
I'm getting similar results (average -87dBm) from my local tower that is 2.4km away.
Do you know the BSCC of the tower in front of you?

P.S. eyeBurst 1.1.5 is out.

Hmm, I'm going to have to get at home where, it seems, I'm ~400m from the local tower.

Turns out that's never going to be known: I have A Contact(tm) (network guy whose address I have from another job I was working on) and he advised that that one is both off and due to be recovered (so, taken down).

P.S. eyeBurst 1.1.5 is out.
Now updated. :)

PPPoE Server Unresponsive After Midnight

Authentication on iBurst's PPPoE Server has been timing out for me the last couple or so nights.
Seems to only occur after midnight.
Error 718 in Win7 (PPP timeout)

- Westville, DBN

DNS failing to resolve mail.google.com since about 09:40 this morning.

Using assigned server 196.46.70.10, no reply from secondary servers 41.208.247.5 and 41.213.80.14.

Update: fixed now (12:14). mail.google.com resolving and 41.208.247.5 and 41.213.80.14 responding too.

Ditto. I sometimes struglle for hours to reconnect after midnight. Now I am simply just not disconnecting

Is iBurst down at the moment ? Connection still says "Inetrnet Access" but cannot do anything. Also, while connecting with Vodacom 3G, I cannot get onto their website either .....
