*READ FIRST* iBurst Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

By way of maybe bringing balance to the force  (sorry, I'm kinda wowed about this result) I've just run a speedtest *while running remote desktop* for someone out in Doornkop/Thulani:

And all I did there was stuff an old (white) UTD into a GRP weatherproof box and put it on a mast so it's nicely above the roofline ...maybe we should consider moving to Soweto? :erm::D

Moved my entire PC to the other side of the house, external antenna on a 5 meter long pole and a friend was on the roof helping me out so the antenna was 5+ meters above our roof line, checking signal strength with the web-service and still only get this:

So, you still want to tell me the problem lies with my PC and you want to send a techie out that I will have to pay for?

Give me this again and I will stop moaning:

I'll add my voice for Cape Town.

On 1Mb. Its like being in the f***ing 3rd world for real! Come on iBurst!

Hi iBurst.

Please can you look into the Rynfield and Benoni towers.

I am running 3 1meg modems for my NZB downloads and during 00:00 - 08:00 i hardly get a conbined download rate of 0.6meg :wtf:

I will post Speed test resutls tonight when i get home.

And with MyBB's own test...

Test conducted on Monday, February 06, 2012 5:25:45 PM

Latency: 227 ms

It is going to snow in the Sahara for 6 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time in ages that anything resembling actual speed has been reached:

MyBB test:

Local:
Test conducted on 08 February 2012 11:54:13 PM
Download Speed: 883 kbps (110.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 268 kbps (33.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 171 ms

For the first time in about 3 weeks I have actually been able to do some research and proper browsing.

Will see how long this lasts, though.

Only because of the hours you conducted the tests :P. Try again between 7:30 - 22:00 ;)

The fastest speed I have seen in the last month was 0.49Mbps and that was also at roughly the same times as what the above 2 tests were done.

Speeds were never above 0.49 no matter what the time of day or night, even between midnight and 7am.

Still pretty decent even with the rain here:

I am slowly getting my nice thoughts back for iBurst.
But Melanie did arrange for an RF Tech to pop past our place and he has contacted me to make arrangements for when.
Will see what happens then.

But I still don't understand the hecticly slow speeds from recently when all of a sudden they jump back to over 1Mbps when nothing on my side has changed.

From another thread -

Before flat-panel antenna (did this test about 2 minutes before the RF Tech arrived at around 2pm):

After flat-panel antenna was fitted on a 3 metre high pole to the first floor of our place (tested at 7-47pm):
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1770866813.png

Um ja, OK.........

Then all of a sudden the speed literally jumped.
2Mb modem with flat-panel antenna attached:

And modem on it's own:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1771020725.png

And running at way over 2Mbps not that long ago in the daytime. Now tell me again that there is not a general network problem?

While I am extremely grateful to Mel for sorting out the RF Tech and the flatpanel installation, there is a serious speed problem that still persists.

Still running less than half of what the speed used to be like just a few months ago:

Overloaded towers everywhere in this area according to the RF Tech who installed the flat-panel.

Hi,

Recently we been having some problems with our connection.
Getting random disconnects after being connected for a while?

Especially if I put a torrent on during the night, it's been disconnected in the morning and it doesn't automatically re-dial.
I'm connected through a router, so thought that maybe the router was giving problems, hence I connected the modem straight to my pc last night.....but still the same problem.

It's like it loses it's connection with the tower and isn't able to re-connect?
If I reset the modem, everything is fine again..

Anyone that can help me out with this??
