Has anyone noticed a heavy slow down on MTN data speeds in Cape Town since yesterday?
Calls are also very poor or just won't dial through.

I thought I was going mad... Also noticed it. I've started using my telkom sim for data more often than not. It started around the time the undersea cable broke if memory serves, not sure if related though.

Same in Kempton Park - Gauteng. Cant even do a speedtest. It was yesterday on 0.36 and today dead.

One of the four cables have been repaired.

The other 3 (two of which impacts South Africa) will be completely repaired during the second half of September.

Mine seems to be (the new) normal ie decent download and 0-1 Mbps upload.

When you say zero connectivity, do you mean no mobile broadband signal?
Or does the device show 3G/4G/5G signal, but not give any traffic throughput?

In that case, at various times (and places if able/convenient), try running a speedtest to see if download manages anything while upload remains near 0 Mbps.. that's what I've been seeing for my tests.

Often my apps appear unresponsive since requests from my device don't reach the servers, or take exceptionally long to reach them, via MTN.

A while back I had a week or so of constant time outs on websites, very annoying, all you can do is refresh until the page finally manages to load.

Anyone have an issue with MTN specifically on iPhones where you’ll have full signal, but data just doesn’t work until you toggle on/off airplane mode?

Seems to be pretty common when speaking to people.

I notice it most when on 5G.

I get this all the time. Been doing it for months now. I’ve just got into the habit of hitting airplane on and off as soon as I see nothing is working and then it’s fine.
