With ADSL it was difficult to have a service which stayed up for very long. However, with Fibre, consumers can now look forward to having a service with high availability, that is seldom interrupted. This makes them suitable for small/home businesses and demanding users.

The problem is that not all ISP service providers provide a high availability service. For example Axxess currently disconnects their service every 2.9 days. See separate thread for more detail.

Looking for recommendations of ISP's which stay up for long periods. I have tested Telkom Internet (TI), which seems to stay up uninterrupted for weeks/months at a time. Do you have experience of other ISP's which have a history of long up times?

Why not schedule a reconnect every 2 days in the wee hours of the morning?

I'm now resetting the Axxess pppoe connection every morning at 04:30.

Is Axxess is the only ISP that routinely disconnects their customers. Or are there other ISPs that do likewise?

Hard to say as I seldom keep a pppoe connection active for longer than 12 hours, I schedule four ISPs using a IPCop firewall.

As I said in your other thread TI were forcing a reconnect after 9 hours a couple of months back but that seems to have stopped now.

I never reset anything. Running Vox, WA, TI and Afrihost accounts through my PfSense firewall as separate PPPoE connections.

Sounds more like a router issue to me than an issue with your connection.

No, there is no router issue here. In a separate thread I provided clear proof that Axxess initiates a terminate request from their side. Also Axxess has closed all my trouble / incident tickets in this regard without any action or proper communication. They did however admit it verbally, but don't want to state same in writing.

The best proof for this is not only in the pfsense logs, but their own (Axxess) session logs which can be downloaded from their user portal.

Also, since you do not use Axxess as an ISP, you are not in a position to directly verify the problem. What you have however indicated is that you do not experience the same problem with Vox, WA, TI, and Afrihost. That is good to know. Thanks.

My Crystalweb account has been up for 5 days 22h and 9m.

Only because I ran low on cap last month and switched to Afrihost.

Before that I seem to recall it was 36 days or so and that's only because Telkom had to fix an issue.

Must be something to do with Axxess' RADIUS configuration forcing a session close for accounting purposes.

Thanks, this provides further substance that most/all other ISPs do not willfully interrupt user sessions.

On Vox - 04 day,17 hour,59 min,01 sec

But that's just because I had to reboot the router. Looking at some usage logs my fibre very seldom reconnects: 25/Feb/2017 Sat -> 11/Mar/2017 Sat (as example)

Crystal Web Account, 12 days because I was messing around with some wireless settings and had to reboot.
