There are howto's there for quite a few of the distro's as well as other tutorials for things like
virtualbox, compiz-fusion and a whole lot more. They go into great detail. So if you thinking of giving Linux a go this should help.

I played around with the new Mandriva a while ago. Doesn't really compare to Ubuntu in my opinion, but looks pretty interesting.
