Reputation system: Yes or no?

I like it, but my problem is that you have to "spread reputation around" before giving it to the same person again. I find this absurd because I rep if I have been helped etc, and if the same guy helps me twice I have to rep like 20 people who did not help me, to rep him.

Even without negative reps, we still saw the effect of cliques. Agreed on rating posts. Perhaps the person with the most number of reps on a particular post can win a prize or something every month - that might help improve the quality of posts Excluding OT, but including some of the OT sub-forums as I've seen some very helpful posts in the Motoring section for example
