Returning my Takealot order - An awesome experience

Currently fighting with Takealot to take back a fridge. Fridge is damaged - various issues. Am wondering if the fridge was previously returned. And the fight is to get them to collect it and resend a new fridge. And apparently its my problem to re-package the fridge or they won't pick it up? And if it gets further damaged in transit, its my fault if the courier damages it further?

I'm at a loss for words.
So I'm done!

What a ball ache. And through the persistence of my wife, the fridge was returned and cancelled the replace option and got the refund.
Issues experienced - consistent promises that they will call us or escalate and call us. Only got a call back the day after this was escalated to one of the heads of departments via tracking him down. Its as if the phones were fixed ;-)
Packaging was next to impossible to put back on to the fridge, through multiple attempts - another fight with them insisting they will only accept the return if its in original packaging. This is non CPA compliant.
3 interactions with the courier - to collect the fridge, and was 1) not able to take the fridge unless in original packaging. 2) Once approved to be not in original packaging - the courier was man-alone, and his vehicle was too small. wtf? 3) Big enough vehicle as well as enough people to collect the fridge.

All through the above, my wife was constantly calling Takealot AND the courier to get this done as quickly as possible. After the collection was complete, we threw in the towel. Cancelled the replacement option, and i got my refund.

I then get an email "Are you satisfied with the service". Really?

Anyhoo - i was naive to think that Takealot was capable of delivering an appliance like a Fridge. This was my stupidity for thinking it was so easy to Order + Deliver, and we move on :-(

Going to be a while before I attempt Takealot again. Glad you guys had positive experiences... This time... so so so bad

Never had issues with Takealot regarding returns. OneDayOnly on the other hand take almost 3 weeks to deliver and you pay delivery fees irrespective of the amount you buying for.

When returning something they charge a collection fee as well.

It works when it works. Generally works very well. However, when there hiccups, it’s when the wheels fall off. Their staff seem to be clueless & seem to depend on the system to tell them what to do. There are scenarios which their systems do not cater for & their staff show complete ignorance & incompetence when these situations arise.

Because for the most part they are schite scared to because once someone took inniative and mistake a mistake for which they had to pay dearly.

At least that is my experience with most companies, people don't take initiative because the gains are none and the reprimandations for when it goes wrong sivere.

I understand your frustration and completely agree that no-one should visit a site which they do not enjoy. It is counter-productive and will just frustrate you further.

It is always sad to see a member go, but I also understand that we cannot satisfy everyone. We hope you find a better forum and tech news website to serve your needs.

The best of luck.
I have some feedback about this matter for your attention-
The good news is that he will never bother you again. As you may have noticed he has never come back, neither as a clone or any other channels he used. That's because he has left SA as far as I know. I used to be friends with him but he's gone, vanished off the face of the earth...

Hi guys. I have a question. I had to order new desktop dishwasher because my old one gave out. I figured the new one (different make) would be pretty much the same dimentions, but I see now on the site that it seems to be about 11cm taller than my old one, which means it might not fit between the countertop and the hanging cupboard above it. Would Takealot exchange it for example if I dont use it and pack it back in the box unused obviously?

They send it back to the reseller, the reseller might exchange it sure.

Why even open it? Either cancel the order or request an immediate return.

You’ve got the dimensions. Presumably you have a tape measure. It’s either going to fit or it isn’t. There’s little room for “maybe”.

It is this one. It does not show who the reseller is? Or is is Midea themselves?

Because it might actually fit. I am not sure. I would need to open it and see if it does.
Yup as Bwana has said the measurements are here
Product Dimensions (WxDxH) 550 x 500 x 438mm

Check with a tape measure :-)

I don't actually know, I bought a phone from Takealot that didn't show a seller until I returned it.

Oh ok. I just checked the dimensions on the Swan diswhasher manual and the dimensions on the Midea manual and both are 438mm. Dont know where Takealot gets 555m from then. Yikes. False alarm then I hope. Thanks guys.

Tbh they’re pretty good about returns so I doubt you’ll get much pushback, especially if it doesn’t fit.

Thanks meneer. Hopefully if the dimensions in each's manual is correct then it should fit exactly as the old one. I just nearly had a heart attack when I saw the dimensions on Takealot. I wonder where they get that from. Maybe it is while it is still in its box?

Had an experience with a fridge. But the nature of the packaging, it was impossible not to tear the plastic + the box. We did try use it, but it was faulty. Takealot tried the "You need to rebox it with the packaging or we won't accept it" trick. Lets just say my Mrs is amazing, and she found a guy at the top of the food chain at Takealot via LinkedIn, got contact details and they fetched the fridge was fetched the following day. Full refund. No issue.
If you are unhappy with a product they don't get to say no. You just need to stick to your guns. If it works or not.
