Review: HTC HD2

Yes you can install Android however it is hardly functional. After a month and a half of "your phone will arrive next week" Apparently Ill be getting my HTC HD 2... next week.

Goodluck - the SA suppliers are absolutely useless - think I'm on month four of "no stock"... I've logged a support call with HTC against the local suppliers, but don't think it'll help much, this is SA after-all.

I was shown a message from HTC to MTN advising that stock will be available for order from the 23rd March.
So in effect MTN needs to order the stock, it arrives 6-7 days Later and only then can you process your application for the contract, thereafter waiting 3-7 days for the verification of your contract.
Anyways... Im sure Ill get it before they release a newer HTC... O wait! The HTC HD MINI is already out -.-

I'd rather continue using my Nokia R170 phone for the rest of my life than go with MTN.

I have been using an HD2 for over two months. quite simply the best phone I have ever owned.
One drawback is that it does not always connect to Windows Mobile Manager. I am running Windows 7 on my PC
Other than that, it just works!

When windows phone 7 is ported to the HD2 (.... and no doubt it will happen), then it may well be transformed into the ultimate smartphone! Quote below is from another thread

..... Hands down, it's the best smartphone I've ever owned (and trust me, I've had many) but not without it's compromises. But they're mostly to do with the windows mobile OS rather than the phone itself. See, the more apps you load onto a windows device, the more likely the phone is to freeze, hang, or do something unexpected (just like a PC in fact). I have to soft-reset mine once in a while, maybe once every few weeks - hardly enough to be annoying really, but not great either. What I love perhaps the most is the huge 4.3inch sharp, clear & bright screen which makes internet use practical on a phone for the first time, especially with the finger pinch-to-zoom function in the built-in Opera & the auto landscape view - brilliant! But if that still doesn't do it for you, you can also use the built-in Wifi Access Point application to surf wirelessly on your laptop.
The compass comes in handy now & then and the..... Camera is exceedingly good for a phone, as is the mpeg4 video recording quality. The dual-LED flash is an absolute flame-thrower, gives a blinding light and I believe the latest firmware update from HTC will include a torch application (I've been using a third-part free app which works great). Built-in Google maps is ok, but you have to buy & install your own voice-guided, 3D GPS software if you want a more complete navigation solution.
It's great for compatibility with your pc office apps & Adobe is built-in too.
Call quality is good and speaker phone loud, but I wouldnt recommend to use it at max volume because then it distorts somewhat - one step down is okay. I would also recommend a capacitive stylus (altho not sure they available locally, but a normal stylus wont work on HD2 :( ), for when some things are still too small on screen to use your finger which I found happens occasionally.
Other than that the HTC sense user interface is great and makes the HD2 a joy to use, along with many more nice new touches not found on other devices eg. like when you turn the phone over facedown on a flat surface during a call and the speakerphone comes on automatically! ..... ;)

I think he means the port isn't exactly ready for everyday usage. I'm not too sure about the HD2 but on the TP2 port, a lot doesn't work, like bluetooth and sound etc

Yeah I got my HD2 this past tuesday :)
When the new prices was released I went to the Vodacom shop and ask them to put me on a waiting list for the phone, and got a notification on monday that they have my HD2 for me. Went and upgraded, so now I'm a happy camper again. So far I'm loving this phone, except for 1 thing that iritates the hell out of me....no easy access to volume control. Or maybe I'm just missing it.

Congrats!
For volume, try the standard rocker button at upper left-side of the phone. Top half of the button is vol up, bottom half is vol down ;)

You know ever since I saw the HTC Evo, I can't give a toss about any other phone...

Hmm most reviews still praise the HTC HD2 vs the EVO but i must say the 8mp camera and android are good competition.
Seems i may prefer it to the HD2 :(!
